Launched in 1961 and built until 1973, the car began life with assembly in England before production moved to Sweden, where it became the 1800S. Later years brought the fuel-injected 1800E and the 1800ES shooting brake with its frameless glass tailgate. Collectors tend to chase the early cars with their cow-horn bumpers and the final ES models, though a sorted 1800S remains the most usable way in.
Rust is the main thing to check: sills, floors, wheel arches, front suspension mounting points and the area around the battery box all deserve a close look, and bodywork will cost more than the mechanicals. The B18 and B20 engines are durable when properly maintained, but some trim and interior parts take patience to source.
