Basic information and history
The Volvo 1800S is among the most iconic models in Swedish automotive history. After the first P1800s were built at Jensen in England, production moved home to Lundby in Gothenburg in 1963, and thus the designation 1800S was born, where the S stands for Sweden. The 1966 model year is interesting because the B18B engine received a boost to 115 horsepower that year, thanks to among other things a sharper camshaft, and the robust five-bearing crankshaft combined with overdrive gave the car a long-distance touring character that few contemporary sports cars could match. It was also this combination that allowed an 1800S to become the car with the highest mileage in the world.
This example was sold new in Sweden and has had five owners. The odometer shows 90,516 km, but the seller cannot guarantee that this is correct. The car is described as being in original condition, has passed inspection, and is drivable as it stands.
Equipment and options
- Overdrive
- Twin SU carburettors
Otherwise, the car is free of additional equipment and has retained its original technical specification. The interior is new as of 2025, and the brakes both front and rear were replaced about two months ago. The right side mirror is broken off but is included with the car.
Condition
The paint and bodywork are assessed by the seller to be in good condition. The car shows some patina with isolated spots of paint loss, and the chrome on the front bumper has come away in one place. The left door needs to be pushed twice to open, which the seller believes may be an adjustment issue. The windows are said to be in excellent condition.
The interior is described as excellent, which is linked to the new upholstery from 2025. The dashboard and headliner are, according to the seller, in good condition, and all seatbelts function.
The tyres and rims are said to be in good condition.
The engine is described as being in good condition and starts and runs without issue. The gearbox and brakes are also assessed as good, the clutch works, and gear changes are smooth. All electronics function and the dashboard is free of warning lights.
Service history
The car is said to be fully serviced, and the seller has receipts and documentation supporting the service history. The brake replacement front and rear about two months ago is documented with a receipt for SEK 5,500. The most recent inspection was carried out on 2018-05-18 and the vehicle passed.
Summary
A Volvo 1800S from 1966, sold new in Sweden, in original condition with overdrive and twin SU carburettors, five owners, and a recorded odometer reading of 90,516 km which cannot be guaranteed. The car is drivable as it stands, has recently had its brakes replaced, and received new upholstery in 2025. The remarks are limited to some patina in the paint, chrome that has come away at one point on the front bumper, a broken right side mirror that is included, and a left door that may need adjustment. An opportunity for anyone seeking a classic Swedish sports car with documented service history.
