Basic Information and History

Volvo P1800S 1968 – a Swedish sports car icon. The P1800S model is widely known among car enthusiasts thanks to its unique combination of classic 1960s design, Swedish engineering, and motorsport heritage. The 1968 model is considered by many as one of the most desirable, as it combines Volvo’s robust B18 engine with the period bodywork designed by Pelle Petterson. Perhaps most famous for its prominent role in the TV series The Saint, the P1800S has cemented its place in both Swedish and international car culture.

This particular example, with chassis number 183351 P, is said by the seller to have been sold new in Sweden. Additional curiosities include two moving boxes of spare parts as well as collections from a previous P1800 Club membership, such as magazines and documentation.

Original wheels with tires are included (aluminum wheels currently fitted), and there are both restorations (e.g., replaced rocker panels according to the previous owner) and cosmetic adjustments that should be considered (see below).

Equipment and Options

  • Aluminum wheels (fitted)
  • Original wheels included
  • Overdrive
  • Complete with spare parts in two moving boxes
  • Club history: P1800 Club magazines, etc.

The car is equipped with aluminum wheels, while the original wheels (with tires) are included for a period-correct appearance if desired. No major aftermarket modifications are reported otherwise, but it is noted that the rocker panels have been replaced and the body was likely repainted at an unknown time during previous ownership.

Condition

Body and Exterior:

The body is presented in good usable condition. Rocker panels have been replaced according to the previous owner. The paint shows some stone chips and color variations; it is likely the car has been repainted, but this cannot be verified as the seller has only owned it for 18 months. Headlight lenses are in very good condition, while some chrome trims show damage. The glass is free from scratches and cracks.

Interior:

Inside, there is wear on the front seats and somewhat faded carpets, while the headliner is properly fitted and in good condition. The steering wheel and controls are judged to be in good condition.

Tires and Wheels:

The mounted tires have about 5 mm tread depth and are in good condition. The tires on the original wheels are older and in poorer condition.

Mechanics and Function:

The engine has recently been serviced with rebuilt carburetors, new jets, and adjusted ignition. Note that the fuel gauge sometimes needs a light tap to show correctly. Brakes passed inspection this year without remark. The gearbox, including overdrive, works perfectly.

Service History

The latest documented service was performed 6 months ago with an oil and filter change, new spark plugs, as well as a complete overhaul and rebuild of both carburetors – including new jets and adjustments, plus a compression test (with even results across all cylinders).

The car passed inspection in April 2025 without remarks, and according to current regulations, this was the final mandatory inspection required for this model year. Earlier service history and receipts are missing, as the seller has only owned the car for 18 months.

Summary

A rare opportunity awaits the enthusiast: this is a well-preserved 1968 Volvo P1800S with several sought-after details such as aluminum wheels (with original wheels included), recent servicing, and overall solid mechanical condition.

A perfect starting point for anyone wanting to own a piece of Swedish sports car history, whether for use or further restoration – with clear potential to increase in value for both collectors and driving enthusiasts alike. Don’t miss the chance to acquire a classic with the right presence, club history, and strong future market prospects!
