Basic Information and History
The Volvo 264 was introduced in 1974 as the flagship model of the new 200 series and was Volvo's first car with a six-cylinder engine since the PV 800 series. Under the bonnet sat the newly developed B27 engine, a 2.7-litre aluminium V6 developed in collaboration between Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo, hence the designation PRV engine. Externally, the 264 differed from the 244 through a longer front end with a more upright grille and a different headlight arrangement, giving the car a more distinctly representative appearance. The model was aimed at buyers who wanted the same robust basic construction as in the 240 series, but with more comfort, a larger engine, and a higher level of equipment. The 1976 model belongs to the early vintages of the 260 series, before the larger facelifts that followed later in the decade.
This example is a Volvo 264 of the 1976 model year. The seller states that the car was sold new in Sweden. According to information from the Volvo Museum, however, the car is said to have been in the USA between 1976 and 1980, after which it was put into use in Sweden. In connection with this, the engine was replaced. The odometer reading is 13,400 km, and the seller states that this can be warranted. The car has had six owners.
The car has undergone a restoration, and the seller states that since then it has always been kept in a garage and never driven in rain. The car comes with extensive documentation, including driving logs from 1980 to 1987 as well as from 1994, 1997, and 1998, a number of older inspection protocols, and photo documentation from the restoration. The seller describes the combination of colour code and upholstery as unique. There are no loans on the car and no deductible VAT.
