Launched in 1991 as a saloon with the estate following soon after, the 850 ran until the mid-1990s, when the S70 and V70 took over. It is remembered for its five-cylinder engines, its delta-link rear axle and a safety package that was ahead of the class, and the estate's 1994 British Touring Car campaign did no harm to its reputation. Enthusiast demand focuses on the turbos: the 1995 T-5R in its well-known colours, the 850 R that followed in both saloon and estate form, and, more quietly, tidy naturally aspirated cars such as the 2.5 SE.
