The 7 Series has carried BMW's flagship role since the E23 arrived in 1977, and the generations that followed – E32, E38 and E65 – span nearly three decades of German luxury saloon. Enthusiasts tend to rank the E38 highest, particularly the V12 750iL and the long-wheelbase 740iA, while the E32 750i introduced BMW's first postwar twelve-cylinder. Early E65 cars with iDrive and Bangle styling, among them the 745i, 750Li and 760i, have moved from controversial to genuinely collectable.
