The company's aviation roots in Trollhättan shaped the cars from the start: front-wheel drive, slippery aerodynamic bodies and a focus on safety long before it was fashionable. The early two-stroke 92, 93 and 96 earned their reputation on rally stages, and the V4-engined 96 remains a favourite among collectors. The 99 brought turbocharging to the mainstream and made the brand known well beyond Scandinavia, while the 900, particularly in Turbo and convertible form, is the model most enthusiasts picture first. The 9000, 9-3 and 9-5 represent the later generations, built during and after the General Motors years, before production in Trollhättan came to an end in the early 2010s.
