It replaced the 900 and began life as a hatchback, coupé and convertible before moving to a new platform in 2002 as the Sport Sedan, later joined by the Sport Combi estate. Enthusiasts tend to chase the Aero in both 2.0T and 2.8 V6 turbo form, the all-wheel-drive Turbo X, Hirsch-tuned cars and the torquey TTiD Aero diesel, while the convertibles have a loyal following of their own.
When looking at a Saab 9-3 for sale, cycle the roof and check its hydraulics on cabriolets, listen for timing chain rattle on the later four-cylinder turbos, ask for documented oil changes and inspect the ignition cassette on early cars. Rust around wheel arches and sills shows up on older examples. Buying or selling a 9-3 through Bidders Highway is a matter of a single bid or listing.
