Launched in 1968, the Escort became one of Ford's defining European models. The rear-wheel-drive MK1 and MK2, built up to 1980, are the generations collectors chase hardest, with the Mexico, RS1600 and RS2000 carrying the most weight thanks to the car's rally record. From 1980 the Escort switched to front-wheel drive, with the XR3i and RS Turbo as the sporting high points, before the turbocharged four-wheel-drive RS Cosworth with its big rear wing arrived in the early 1990s; the early Big Turbo cars are the ones most sought after.
