The name arrived in 1955, taken from Fair Lane, Henry Ford's estate near Detroit, and first marked the best-trimmed full-size Ford. Early cars are the ones enthusiasts chase hardest: the Fairlane Crown Victoria with its chrome band over the roof, the Fairlane 500 Skyliner with its retractable steel top, and open Sunliner models with V8 power. Fairlane 500 sat at the top of the range from 1957 to 1959, while from 1962 the name moved down to Ford's intermediate line, which introduced the new small-block V8.

When buying, rust in the floors, rear fenders and around the back window is what costs most to put right, and on a Skyliner the roof motors, relays and limit switches should be cycled several times. Trim and variant-specific brightwork can be hard to source. If you are looking at a Ford Fairlane for sale, or want to sell your own, the bidding happens at Bidders Highway.
