Launched in the early 1950s on Beetle underpinnings, the Type 2 was Volkswagen's first van and quickly became a bus and a camper as much as a working vehicle. The split-screen T1 gave way in 1967 to the T2 Bay Window with its single-piece windscreen, and squarer generations followed. Collectors chase early T1 Kleinbus and deluxe multi-window models, along with honest Bay Window buses and Westfalia-style camper conversions. When buying, rust is the main concern: check sills, floors, wheel arches, battery trays, the nose panel and window frames, and ask for records of earlier restoration work.
