Basic information and history
The 1965 Ford Mustang GT Convertible marks an early and sought-after specification in the model's first generation. The GT package was introduced in 1965 and added front disc brakes, fog lights in the grille, dual exhaust pipes and a more focused instrumentation. The A-code V8 with a four-port carburetor is said to deliver 225 horsepower, combined with a four-speed manual transmission. According to the seller, the car was built in San Jose, California, on June 16, and only about three percent of the 1965 Mustangs were equipped with the GT package. Ford does not have too much documentation on the earlier Mustangs of the first generation. However, the fact that the car is a GT is confirmed by checking the rear beams that are different from a regular Mustang. In the album documentation this is described in a couple of photos.
This example was imported to Sweden in January 2006 and is therefore not sold in Sweden. After the engine renovation in 2020, the car has only driven 9280 km according to the seller. The current owner bought the car in September 2010 and states that since the repaint in 2005 the car has always been stored in a heated garage and waxed every winter. The color is listed as Wimbledon White.
As a curiosity, the seller states that in 2010 they were looking for a well-maintained car in a classic color combination and therefore carried out extensive improvements without a fixed cost limit. Improvements and service measures are documented, see the section on service history.

The photographer states the paint condition as 8 out of 10. There are two small marks on the driver's door the size of pinheads. Just below the handle on the driver's door there is a small small mark. There is a small mark in the paint on the tailgate. This is included in a photo and is clearly visible. The chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are rated as very good condition, 8 out of 10. The glass is in good condition with a small stone chip in the windshield. There is minor wear on the sills and door panels.
The Cab Cab is rated 7 out of 10. The function of the zippers for the rear window is uncertain, the seller has not used them during his ownership.
Interior The interior is rated 8 out of 10. On the right front seat there is damage to the edge between the seat surface and the side, approximately 10 x 4 mm. Under the radio there is an area approximately 5 x 2 cm that is painted in a different shade. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are stated to be in very good condition, 9 to 10 on a ten-point scale.
Tires and rims BF Goodrich tires with double red lines, tread depth approximately 5 mm. The rims are said to be in new condition.
Mechanics and function The engine was renovated and balanced in 2020 by Sahlström Classic Car and has since driven approximately 9280 km. The ignition system is switchless and the camshaft is slightly sharper than original. The brake system has been upgraded to dual circuit and is reported to be without any complaints. The gearbox and driveline, Borg & Warner T10 four-speed manual, are reported to be without any complaints. The radio is original from 1965 and adapted for the American market, which affects usability in Sweden.
