Basic information and history
The Mercedes-Benz 250 S belongs to the W108 model series, which was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the autumn of 1965 as the successor to the finned W111 models. The design was signed by Paul Bracq and represented a distinctly more modern and lower line with larger glass areas and slimmer roof pillars, a design language that would characterise Mercedes-Benz for many years to come. Under the bonnet sits the 2.5-litre straight-six M108 engine with twin Zenith carburettors and an output of around 130 DIN horsepower. The model had disc brakes all round from the start and was offered with a four-speed manual gearbox or automatic. The 250 S was produced between 1965 and 1969 and was the entry-level model in the series, with the 250 SE and 300 SE above it in the hierarchy.
This example is a Swedish-sold 250 S of the 1966 model year which, according to the seller, is in restored original condition. The odometer reading is 55,200 kilometres, a figure which the seller cannot guarantee. The car has had a total of 12 owners, the current one since September 2024. During this time, the car has been kept in a garage under a car cover. There are no loans or deductible VAT on the vehicle. The car was last inspected on 22 August 2016 and is now exempt from inspection.
According to the seller, the previous owner began an extensive restoration in June 2020, in which the car was stripped down to the shell. All rust and irregularities were addressed, and all rubber mouldings and seals for windows, doors, boot lid and bonnet were replaced with new ones. The seats, door panels, headliner, dashboard and floor mats were re-upholstered in the original style. See photos of the restoration in the photo album.
Equipment and options
- 2.5-litre straight-six carburettor engine
- Manual gearbox
- Disc brakes all round
- Instrument panel in original condition
- Interior and headliner restored in original style by the previous owner
- Extra hubcaps included
The car is stated to be in original condition without modifications. The restoration carried out by the previous owner was done with the ambition of preserving the original execution, and the interior has been re-upholstered in the original style rather than updated. The seller states that the interior and headliner were restored in 2019 and that the full restoration of the body began in June 2020.
Condition
Body and exterior: Both the paint and the body are described by the seller as being in excellent condition, which should be viewed in light of the thorough restoration during which the car was stripped down to the shell and all rust was addressed. All rubber mouldings and seals have been replaced with new ones. However, the seller states that there is a crack in the paint on the bonnet, as well as some paint flaking on the hubcaps. The windows are stated to be in good condition.
Interior: The interior is stated to be in excellent condition. The seats, door panels, headliner, dashboard and floor mats have been re-upholstered in the original style, and both the instrument panel and headliner are described as being in excellent condition. The instrument panel is, according to the seller, in its original form. All seatbelts work and the instrument panel is free of warning lights. The trip meter and all electrical equipment are stated to be working.
Tyres and wheels: The tyres are new since 2021 and have, according to the seller, only covered 1,200 kilometres. The tyres and wheels are overall assessed to be in good condition, with the reservation noted above regarding paint flaking on the hubcaps. Extra hubcaps are included with the car.
Mechanics and function: The engine is stated to be in good condition, starting and running faultlessly according to the seller. The gearbox is described as being in excellent condition, the clutch works and gear changes occur without remark after the gear mechanism was restored to as-new condition. The brakes are stated to be in excellent condition, with a new master brake cylinder, new brake hoses and new front brake discs. The rear suspension was replaced in the spring of 2025. The car is ready to drive as it stands.
Service history
The car is stated to be fully serviced, and the service history is, according to the seller, supported by receipts and documentation. A full service and inspection was carried out by Sthlm Limousineservice AB in September 2026, according to the seller's information, and included replacement of the master brake cylinder, restoration of the gear mechanism, cleaning of the carburettors, and replacement of oil, oil filter, engine air filter and spark plugs, among other things.
In addition, the seller states that new brake hoses and new front brake discs were fitted in 2023, that the rear suspension was replaced in the spring of 2025, and that the tyres are new since 2021. The extensive body and interior restoration begun by the previous owner in June 2020 is also included in the car's documented history.
Summary
This Swedish-sold Mercedes-Benz 250 S of the 1966 model year has undergone an extensive restoration down to the shell, with rust addressed, new rubber mouldings and an interior re-upholstered in the original style. Mechanically, the car has received an overhaul with a new master brake cylinder, restored gear mechanism, new rear suspension and new front brake components, and it is ready to drive as it stands. Minor remarks include a crack in the paint on the bonnet and paint flaking on the hubcaps. With documented service history and garage storage under a car cover, the seller describes the car as a very well-maintained source of joy, an example of Paul Bracq's W108 that should appeal to those who appreciate original execution and carefully carried out restoration work.
