Launched in 1955, the MGA broke with MG's upright pre-war shape and stayed in production until 1962, built around a separate chassis and the familiar four-cylinder B-series engine. The 1500 came first, followed by the 1600 and the 1600 Mk II with its larger capacity and revised rear lights. The Twin Cam, with its twin-overhead-cam engine and all-round disc brakes, remains the collectors' choice, though the fixed-head coupé and honest, well-kept 1500 Roadsters have a loyal following of their own.
Corrosion is the main thing to check: chassis rails, sills, floors and rear wings, plus even door gaps and panel fit.
