Basic information and History
One of perhaps the world's most famous car models, the Beetle, or Bubbla as we call it here at home, is now up for bidding. The model's history begins as early as 1934 and does not end until 2003, with a total of 21,429,490 cars produced worldwide. The story of the cabriolet model begins a little later, in 1948 when Wilhelm Karmann bought a VW Beetle and converted to the cabriolet. The name of the cab version therefore became Karmann. The success was a fact and already the following year, 1949, the Karmann model was put into production. A total of 331,847 Karmanns were built until 1980.
This yellow Karmann 1303 LS from 1973 is one of the cars sold in Sweden, and comes with a 1.6-liter boxer four with approx. 50 horsepower and a manual 4-speed gearbox. The car has had 9 owners over the years and comes in a nicely restored condition. The car also comes with a fantastic story that can be told by the current owner. It also includes a large amount of documentation about the car's history. The first owner received the car from her husband as a 50th birthday present. The husband was a goldsmith and had a copy of the starter key made in 18k for approx. 32 grams. This fantastic little curiosity comes with the vehicle when ownership changes.
Equipment and options
- Recaro seats in black leather
- Sports steering wheel
- Copy of ignition key in 18k gold
Condition
The car is fully renovated by car restorer Tommy Bjurman in Stockholm. The renovation was carried out in 2010. The car had at the time been driven about 80.000 km and since the renovation has driven just under 6000 km. The car is rust-free and is described as exceptionally well maintained. The yellow paintwork is in a fine condition and without remarks. Lantern glass, chrome strips, emblems and other details are also in good condition throughout. Titanium gray rims with chrome edge in good condition. The tire's tread depth is measured at 8mm. A set of original Big rims comes with the vehicle. The cab and the inner roof were reviewed in 2022 by the well-known Tore Ström.
The interior is also unremarkable. Material on Recaro seats and rear seat looks nice. No chafing from stepping in and out. The door sides in black are also nice. Controls and buttons are in good condition. The raid wheel as well.
Mechanically, the car is described by the current owner as being in mint condition. Neat, clean and tidy under the hood. Carburetor looks clean of leaks and drips, an otherwise common problem. Underneath, the car is rust-free and we find no remarks. Backs and drums are in mint condition.
Service history
The car received a full service performed in 2021 by the current owner. The car has been sparingly used since the renovation in 2010 and the generally good condition indicates a well-cared-for example. In the last 3 years, the car has driven approx. 2500 km.
