Basic information and history

Mercedes-Benz launched the first-generation SLK, internal code R170, for model year 1997. The model quickly became known for its electrohydraulically operated steel vario-roof that combined coupé qualities with open-top motoring. The SLK 230 also introduced a supercharged four-cylinder engine in a compact roadster, giving a distinctive character with strong low-end torque and long-distance comfort in a manageable package. The layout with a longitudinally mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and multi-link rear axle provided a balanced experience typical of contemporary Mercedes engineering.

This Swedish-sold example from model year 1997 shows 58,862 kilometres on the odometer, stated as guaranteed. The car is sold by an estate and was acquired by the current seller in July 2024. Body and paint: The paint is described as very good. According to the seller, the car has been kept indoors and only driven during the summer season, which usually benefits preservation of the body and finishes.

Glass, chrome and details: Windows, chrome, trims, lamp lenses and badges are reported to be in good condition.

Interior: The interior is assessed as well cared-for and in good condition. The headliner is in good condition. Steering wheel, controls and buttons are, according to the seller, in good condition with no remarks.

Tyres and wheels: The tyres are in good condition. Mercedes-Benz original wheels. 

Mechanicals and functions: Engine, brakes, gearbox and drivetrain are reported to be in good condition. No specific information on the operation of the folding roof system has been noted. A warning light is illuminated, but the owner has unfortunately not yet had time to have the issue diagnosed at a workshop.

The service book carries stamps from 2022 and 2024, the latter being the most recent service. Some papers are present and will accompany according to the seller, but a fully stamped service book or complete documentation is not presented here.
