Basic information and history

The 1995 BMW 540iA marks the start of the E39 generation V8 in the 5 Series, with the M62 V8 with 4.4 liters, chain-driven cams and a five-speed automatic. The car has reportedly been parked for longer periods between changes of ownership after the first owner.

Fun fact: The windshield has been recently replaced, the car has new emblems and is equipped with M-Sport and Shadowline from the factory. The chassis has been updated with KW components, which gives a more modern level of control without completely losing the original character of the E39.

Condition

Body and exterior condition Generally good paint with wash scratches and normal wear. The car was polished at Nikkes Bilvård 24/3 2026. Minor stone chips are present, as well as small marks and scratches around the handles and door edges. A local paint chip of approximately fifteen millimeters is found on the left rear door. The front, hood and several panels are said to be very fresh, but there is no paper to prove repainting.

Rust notes: small spot on right front fender, incipient rust on right rear fender, some bubbles to the left of the trunk handle and a surface rust spot inside the fuel tank cap. The seller describes the car as ninety-nine percent rust-free. Rubber strips around the front and rear windows need replacing. Other strips are fine. Headlights in good condition with minor wear. New emblems fitted. Windshield recently replaced and very nice.

Interior Good condition for its age without deep damage or tears. Plastic details around the seats have been replaced and the door clips have been replaced. The headliner is complete and fits as it should. The steering wheel has some wear on the upper part with minor tears in the leather. Controls and buttons are otherwise in good condition, but the driver's side fan control has stopped working.

Tires and rims Basically new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 purchased in 2025 and driven approximately 1500 km. Rims with stone chips and some edge impacts corresponding to age, but give a good overall impression.

Mechanics and function The engine is stated to be in good condition. In 2025 the following have been replaced: intake manifold, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, water pump, thermostat and crankcase cover. Driveline overhauled with new wishbones all around, gearbox flushed and differential checked. Brakes in good condition with about half the pads remaining according to the seller, however without a current receipt for the last replacement.

Service history

A minor renovation and major overhaul was carried out in 2025 at Autoteknik Fjälkinge, with a receipt of SEK 39,601. The work included, among other things, spark plugs, crankcase components, intake manifold, air filter housing, swing bearings, valve cover gaskets, wheel bearings and replacement of all control arms. The gearbox was flushed and the differential was checked in connection with the work.

According to the seller, there is documentation dating back to 2012. The current owner has saved all receipts and other documentation during their ownership.
