Volvo 240 GL 1990 – Well-Preserved Classic with Documented History
Basic Information and History
We are pleased to present a Swedish classic in exceptionally well-preserved condition – a 1990 Volvo 240 GL with only 127,741 km on the odometer. The car is being sold by its current owner, who purchased it as a 50th birthday present to himself in 2021 after having followed this particular example for many years. He was already aware of the car's special local history prior to buying it.
The Volvo was originally sold in Sweden and has had six previous owners. Between 1993 and 2004, it belonged to the same family. From 2004 to 2021, it was stored in a garage before the current owner brought it back out on the road. Throughout its entire life, the car has remained within the same geographical area – something confirmed by both the owner and the documentation.
Equipment and Options
This 240 GL is classically equipped and represents the quintessential Swedish car design of its time – focused on comfort and durability. The interior is in outstanding condition, and the car remains in original specification without any modifications. It features steel wheels in excellent condition, new tires fitted in April 2022, and all chrome details, trim, and emblems are well preserved.
Condition
Overall, the condition is very good both inside and out. The body is rust-free, which is rare for this model – especially at this age. The paintwork is in very good condition, although there are a few blisters on the left front wing and right rear wing, likely due to a previous respray. There are a few minor dents on the right side of the car, and a small scuff on the front bumper. The windows are in excellent shape with no scratches or stone chips.
The interior is in top condition – no damage to seats, door panels, headliner, steering wheel, or controls. The headliner is clean and smooth, with only a minor stain. All electronics are fully functional.
Mechanically, the car is in excellent shape. The engine, transmission, and drivetrain operate flawlessly. Most of the braking system – including discs, pads, calipers, hoses, and fluids – was replaced in 2021 and 2025. The car is ready to be enjoyed either as a reliable driver or as part of a collection.
Service History
The most recent service was carried out on May 12, 2025, at Arnagårds Bil & Plåt, where the rear shock absorbers, front brake hoses, and two bushings were also replaced. The workshop is well acquainted with the car – in fact, the workshop owner himself was once one of its owners.
The car comes with a service book containing stamps from the latter part of its life, along with inspection records from 1998, 2021, 2023, and 2025 – all with approved results. A rustproofing treatment was carried out in September 2021, with documentation included. Receipts and additional documentation for work performed since 2021 are also included.
Summary
This is an unusually well-preserved and lovingly cared-for Volvo 240 GL, with low mileage, clear history, and documented condition. With its long-term indoor storage, enthusiast ownership, and recent maintenance, this is an excellent example for collectors and drivers alike who are seeking a safe, analog driving experience from Volvo’s golden era.
The fact that this 240 has been sheltered from the elements for most of the 2000s, while also receiving the kind of care only a true enthusiast would provide, makes it something truly special. This car is not just an everyday classic – it’s a piece of Swedish automotive history.
