1971 Honda CB 450 DOHC
Basic Information and History
An icon from the early 1970s – the Honda CB 450 DOHC – is offered here in excellent condition. This motorcycle was originally sold in Sweden and has had 21 registered users according to the Swedish Transport Agency. The current odometer reading is 29,500 km, but the gauge has likely been replaced, and the mileage cannot be guaranteed.
The CB 450 DOHC was one of the first mass-produced motorcycles to feature dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), giving it a significant edge both technically and in terms of performance for its time. It was fast, beautiful, and technologically advanced – qualities that continue to make it highly sought after by collectors today.
This example was discovered in a non-original green metallic finish with gold striping when the current owner found it in 2021. During disassembly, traces of the original Candy Topaz Orange paint were found near the fuel cap – a stroke of luck, as that very color was the owner's personal favorite and the reason the search for this model began. The motorcycle was completely disassembled and underwent a full restoration (excluding the engine, which was in good condition – only the valve cover, ignition timing with breaker point replacement, and an oil change were performed). The bike is now restored to original condition, fully functional, and permanently exempt from mandatory inspections in Sweden.
Equipment and Features
- Original chrome parts: exhausts, rims, emblems, lights, etc.
- Repainted in correct Candy Topaz Orange with two-component paint.
- Some parts chrome-plated instead of painted (e.g., headlight housing, chain guard, tool box, upper fork clamp).
- Original exhausts in good usable condition.
- No modifications made.
Condition
The bodywork has been professionally restored and repainted to a very high standard. There are no dents or scratches, and the paint is in perfect condition. The motorcycle has been fully disassembled and rebuilt to original specification. The chrome is original and in good condition, with minor age-related blemishes, mainly on the exhausts. The rims have small marks from tire changes. Tires have good tread and are fully approved. The seat, controls, panels, and instruments are in excellent condition. All electronics are fully functional. No modifications have been made to the engine, chassis, or gearbox.
Service History
A complete overhaul and restoration were carried out three years ago, including:
- Full brake system rebuild (new seals, pads, and shoes)
- Engine and drivetrain service: since the engine was in good working order, only valve cover work, ignition timing, breaker point replacement, and oil change were performed
- Electrical system checked and functional
- Only about 50 km ridden since the restoration
- No filled-out service booklet, but documentation from the restoration is available
- Permanently inspection-exempt since May 18, 2022
Summary
This is a fine example of a groundbreaking Japanese classic – the 1971 Honda CB 450 DOHC. Carefully restored with respect for originality and with a personal history that adds emotional value: a machine that became a lifelong dream for the current owner after hearing the sound of a similar bike in his youth.
Rare in this condition, with the correct color and authentic feel – an excellent opportunity for the enthusiast or collector seeking a true icon of motorcycle history.
