Basic Information and History

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT was introduced in 1974 as a two-door coupé designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, built on the same technical platform as the Alfetta sedan. The design was unusual for its time, featuring a transaxle layout with the clutch and gearbox mounted at the rear axle, which provides a nearly even weight distribution. The rear end is carried by a de Dion axle, with inboard-mounted rear disc brakes, while the front suspension uses torsion bars. In 1976, the GTV 2000 arrived with the two-litre version of Alfa Romeo's twin-cam four-cylinder engine displacing 1,962cc, fed by twin dual carburettors and producing around 122 horsepower DIN. The model quickly gained a good reputation as a well-balanced gran turismo, and the competition version, the GTV 2000 Turbodelta, achieved rally success in the late 1970s.

This 1978 model year belongs to the first series, characterised among other things by the distinctive instrument layout with the tachometer in front of the driver and the remaining gauges in the centre console, as well as by the early front-end design predating the 1980 facelift.

This example was sold new in Sweden and has, according to the seller, remained in the same family's ownership since new, with a total of 3 owners. The odometer reads 68,000 kilometres, which the seller states can be guaranteed. The car has only been driven during summer and is reported to have always been stored in a dark garage. The vehicle is free of loans and has no deductible VAT. The car underwent Alfa Romeo's tectyl rust-proofing programme during its first years, and the seller has treated all cavities with tectyl from new (after the first summer). The master brake cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, and fuel pump have recently been replaced. The old master brake cylinder and slave cylinder are retained should one wish to have them restored.

Equipment and Options

  • 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts
  • Five-speed manual gearbox in transaxle configuration
  • De Dion rear axle with inboard-mounted disc brakes
  • Audio and media system

The car is not in fully original condition. The exhaust system is partly stainless steel and has, according to the seller, been upgraded to 2 inches with a full-flow silencer, custom-built by Ferrita. No other modifications are stated.

Condition

The paintwork and bodywork are described by the seller as being in excellent condition, as are the glass panes. The long-term storage in a dark garage and summer-only driving can be assumed to have contributed to the exterior condition.

The interior is stated to be in excellent condition, including upholstery, dashboard, and headliner. The trip meter functions, as do all seatbelts, the audio and media system, and all electronics. The instrument panel is free of warning lights.

Regarding tyres and wheels, there are some remarks: the rear tyres show dry cracking and should be replaced before regular driving.

Mechanically, the engine is reported to be in good condition, starting and running faultlessly according to the seller. The gearbox is described as excellent, shifting faultlessly, the clutch works properly, and the brakes are stated to be in excellent condition. All exterior lighting functions. The car has passed inspection and is ready to drive as is.

Service History

The seller states that the car is fully serviced and that receipts and documentation exist to substantiate the service history. The car last passed inspection on 2026-08-25, and according to the seller, all inspection documents have been kept since the car was new, providing continuous documentation of the car's history within the family.

This is an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2000 from model year 1978, sold new in Sweden, family-owned since new, with 68,000 kilometres on the guaranteed odometer. The bodywork, paint, interior, gearbox, and brakes are described as excellent, the engine as good, and the service history is documented with receipts and complete inspection papers. The exhaust system has been modified with a partly stainless steel system from Ferrita, and the rear tyres show dry cracking that should be addressed. Overall, this is a well-preserved and well-documented example of Giugiaro's transaxle coupé in first-series specification.
