Basic information and history

The 1967 Ford Mustang was the culmination of the first generation of Ford's "pony car", with retro-modern lines, improved handling and extensive equipment that set the standard for American sports coupes in the 1960s. The 1967 model year featured several technical innovations such as a stronger body and the possibility of larger engines. This Mustang 65 A Hardtop is a classic example and attracts collectors thanks to its authentic expression and model-specific details.

The car in question was originally sold in Sweden, delivered to Luleå. For most of its life it has been in use in Norrbotten and its history is confirmed by the attached documents and service book. The current odometer reading is stated at 91,788 kilometers, which probably corresponds to the mileage after renovation or repainting (the actual total mileage is unknown). In 1980 the engine was renovated and bored up to 293 cui (4.8 liters) . In connection with this , the crank was ground, new connecting rods and pistons were installed, the carburetor was changed to a 4-port Holley and an electric fuel pump was installed . The car also received a new servo system .

Ownership details can be confirmed through seller documentation. The extensive engine renovation in the 1980s makes the car an exciting project for the knowledgeable enthusiast.

Equipment and options

  • Original steering wheel (probably still there)
  • Rear seat in good working condition
  • New upholstery for front seats included
  • Chrome, moldings, emblems and headlight lenses in reasonably good condition.
  • Repair handbook ("thicker model") and documentation included
  • New fuel tank

Some spare parts included: new horn, new brake hoses, 4 pairs of Wolfrace slot mags rims and tires, new vinyl roof, new set of wheel bolts, new washer fluid hoses and wiper blades (in metal), new front bonnet trim and a new glass set for the instruments.

No known factory or aftermarket special equipment is documented beyond the engine overhaul. The car has been repainted, probably in the original color, but with poor underbody work. New door panels and carpet are needed for the interior.

Condition

Body and exterior condition: The body requires refurbishment. The paint is in poor condition due to a failed undercoating during a previous repaint, which has led to peeling on some surfaces. Minor rust is present, including in the floor by the driver's seat and on some body parts (see pictures). There are also dents, scratches or door flaps on the car's body (condition is evident from the pictures) .

Interior: The front seat upholstery is worn; however, new upholstery is included. The rear seat and headliner are in acceptable condition. The door panels and carpet need to be replaced and these parts are not included. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are considered to be in usable original condition.

Tires and rims: Tires have adequate tread depth but age is unknown. Rims are visually assessed as usable according to seller's information. There is also an extra set of rims and tires.

Mechanics and function: The engine underwent a renovation around 1980 with, among other things, a bore from 4.7 to 4.8 liters, new pistons, connecting rods , which is confirmed by the accompanying measurement protocol. The brake system has also been renovated and works according to the seller, but only driving on the yard has been tested and full function is recommended to be checked. The gearbox and driveline have not been test driven by the current owner but no known faults are noted.

Service history

Several receipts and workshop notes as well as a comprehensive repair manual are included with the car. Documentation includes previous engine and brake renovations from the 1980s. The last approved inspection was done in 2013 and since then the car has mainly been idle. Some simple service measures have been carried out but extensive maintenance has not been carried out in recent years.

Summary

This is a classic item for the enthusiast looking for a Swedish-sold Ford Mustang 1967 Hardtop with documented history. The car requires a thorough refurbishment of both body and interior, but has an upgraded engine and refurbished brakes from previous owners. With an original feel, project opportunities and good documentation, this example offers great opportunities for those who want to build on a piece of Swedish Mustang history.
