Basic information and history
The legendary Fiat 600 D was the car that put Italy on wheels and came to define small car design in the 1960s. With its distinctive shape, elegant simplicity and astonishing spaciousness, it quickly became a favourite with city dwellers and car enthusiasts alike the world over. This 1967 example, now offered at Bidders Highway, is an excellent chance for those who want to own a piece of European automotive history – in this case, a very well-preserved and carefully restored example.
The car is sold in Sweden and has had a total of 12 users since its first registration in 1967. It currently has 19,140 km on the odometer and has recently undergone an extensive renovation, including a complete repaint and engine overhaul , making this one of the market's most attractive examples of the model.
According to the seller, the car has been carefully restored but is currently out of service and not usable in traffic as the front brakes need to be repaired before inspection. However, this is a minor repair for the handyman, and means that you could be the next owner to take this icon back out on the road.
Equipment and options
- Original design according to the 1967 model
- Completely renovated and repainted bodywork
- Newly renovated engine
- Brand new and unused tires
- Original steering wheel and controls in very good condition
- Chrome details in mainly good condition
The restoration has included a complete engine and paint job . No major modifications from the original design are noted, making it particularly attractive to collectors. Any improvements have been primarily focused on maintaining the car's authentic feel and appearance.
Condition
Body and paint: The body has been completely repainted and the paint is in very good condition without scratches . The car has not been used since then and therefore has an almost new feel to the color. The windows are in good condition, and most of the chrome is shiny and nice - there are a few small blemishes on the bumper, however.
Interior: The interior is very well preserved. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are in overall very good condition, and the headliner is nice even though it has come loose in one rear corner. The driver's seat upholstery is torn and the rubber mats are worn, but new ones can be purchased online at a reasonable price.
Tires and rims: The tires are brand new and unused .
Mechanics and function: The engine has undergone a complete overhaul, however the choke sometimes sticks (it is recommended to replace the cable). The front brakes need to be repaired as they pulsate when braking; this is the reason why the car is parked and not inspected. The gearbox and driveline are in very good condition.
Service history
The car has not been driven since its complete renovation and has therefore not required any regular service yet. The car was last inspected with a passing result on February 5, 1986. Mixed documentation and some receipts are available, but no comprehensive service book. The service and renovation work on the car is covered by certain documents according to the seller.
