The Fiat Argenta was presented in 1981 as a thorough modernisation of the Fiat 132 and took over as the brand's largest model until the Croma arrived in 1985. The model retained the rear-wheel-drive basic construction from the 132 but received a new front, a new rear end and an updated interior. Under the bonnet, among other things, Aurelio Lampredi's double overhead camshafts were offered in 1.6- and 2.0-litre versions, and during 1983 a facelift was carried out with, among other things, a new grille, while the supercharged Volumex was added to the range.
