Basic information and history
The DAF 55 was introduced in 1967 and represented something of a technical step forward for the Dutch manufacturer. The model was the first DAF passenger car with a water-cooled four-cylinder inline engine, in this case the Renault-developed 1,108cc engine that was also found in the Renault 8 and Renault 10. Power was, as always with DAF, transmitted via the continuously variable belt-driven Variomatic transmission, which gave the car its characteristic driving experience without conventional gears. The body was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and was available as a sedan, coupé and estate. The model also gained attention in rallying, including participation in the London-Sydney Marathon in 1968, and it was produced until 1972 before being replaced by the DAF 66.
This example is a DAF 55 Sedan from the 1970 model year. The car has been sold in Sweden and has, according to the seller, had only two owners. The odometer reading is 28,270 kilometres. The car was bought by the seller's father-in-law, who drove it for a few years. It last passed inspection in 2015 and was thereafter used sporadically until 2017, when it was put away in the garage where it still stands. The vehicle is said to be in original condition, and there are no loans or deductible VAT associated with the car.
Equipment and options
- Winter tyres
No modifications or improvements have been made according to the seller, and the car is described as being in original condition.
Condition
The paint and bodywork are both stated to be in good condition, and the windows are also described as good. The car has been parked in a garage since 2017.
The interior is, according to the seller, in good condition, which also applies to the dashboard and headliner. All seat belts are said to work, as does the audio and media system.
The tyres and rims are described as being in good condition. Winter tyres are included, but all the tyres are old.
The engine, gearbox and brakes are all stated to be in good condition. However, the car has not been started or driven since 2017, and the seller has chosen not to start it ahead of the sale, as the seller believes the car should be gone through before it is put back into use.
The car can therefore not be driven as it stands and is not approved for inspection. At the most recent inspection in 2015, the car was approved without remarks, according to the seller. The exterior lighting is said to work.
Service history
The car has not been fully serviced and there are no receipts or other documentation to support the service history.
The seller states that the car was inspected and approved in 2015, and that it was thereafter driven sporadically until 2017 before being put away.
Summary
A Swedish-sold DAF 55 Sedan from 1970 with only two owners, an odometer reading of 28,270 kilometres and stated original condition.
The car has stood still in a garage since 2017 and has not been started since then, which is why it needs to be gone through before it can be put into use. For those who appreciate DAF and the Variomatic technology, this could be an interesting object to bring back to life.
The car is sold as-is and no further photos are currently available.
All information regarding its functionality refers to it working in 2017 when it was put into the garage.
