Basic information and History

The Volvo Amazon was a mid-sized car manufactured by the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo between 1956 and 1970. The Amazon was introduced in 1961 as a four-door sedan and was later joined by a two-door coupe and a five-door station wagon. It is worth noting that the Amazon was the first Volvo model to be widely exported and has subsequently gained popularity worldwide.

The Amazon had a durable and reliable design with a strong emphasis on safety, which was characteristic of Volvo cars at the time.

The Amazon is known for its distinctive styling, which was ahead of its time and showcased Volvo's commitment to both practicality and aesthetics. It had a classic and timeless look, with a prominent chrome grille, large windows for excellent visibility and a spacious interior for its size. The Amazon was also praised for its comfortable ride, solid build quality and robust technology.

This Swedish-sold example is a later 123 GT model which was a 2-door sportier variant of the Amazon with the B18 engine of 96hp and was delivered in the autumn of 1967 to its first user and the second owner took over the car in 1977 and it has had a total of 9 owners over the years.


Equipment and Options

Condition

Exterior: The car has a lovely patina with original paint except for the front fenders which have been replaced. There is the occasional dent/scratch on the car and the original paintwork is dull. The seller says that the car is stainless on the body and the moldings, chrome details and glass parts are in good condition, as are the original wheels, which have some patina but are undamaged. Interior: The really nice interior is in better used condition with some wear on the seat cushion. The dash is in good condition with a minor crack and it has new super nice floor mats. The coveted GT steering wheel is in good condition and the external tachometer enhances the sporty feel. Mechanically: The car runs fine mechanically and mechanically and electrically works as it should. It shifts smoothly between gears, the engine pulls nicely and there are no known leaks under the car. Engine and carburettor have recently undergone a minor renovation. Serviced by previous owner and there is no previous service record apart from the decals seen in the album. The last inspection was in 2018 and is now both tax and inspection exempt.
