About the Model – Jaguar XJR (X308)

When Jaguar launched the X308 generation of the XJ in the late 1990s, it was a car that combined classic British elegance with modern performance. The XJR was the top version in the lineup – a discreet sports saloon that rivaled German competitors like the Mercedes E55 AMG and BMW M5, but with a character all its own.

The design retained Jaguar’s classic lines with its long bonnet, elegant proportions, and the trademark twin round headlights. Underneath, however, the XJR featured modern engineering, including aluminum components in the front suspension for improved handling and comfort. This combination of traditional style and technical refinement has made the X308 one of the last “true” Jaguars – built in Coventry, with craftsmanship and character that have become increasingly rare.

The Engine – Supercharged V8

At the heart of the XJR lies the 4.0-liter supercharged AJ-V8 engine, delivering 370 hp and an impressive 525 Nm of torque available from low revs. The supercharger ensures instant throttle response – a characteristic that set the XJR apart from many contemporary turbocharged engines – allowing it to sprint from 0–100 km/h in about 5.6 seconds.

The engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission from Mercedes, renowned for its durability and smooth shifts. This combination provides both comfortable long-distance cruising and thrilling performance when you unleash the full power reserve. The XJR is also equipped with a reinforced chassis, sportier suspension, and stronger brakes than standard models – making it one of the most engaging Jaguars of its era.

A Modern Classic

Today, the X308 XJR is regarded as a highly sought-after youngtimer – not only for its performance and comfort, but also because it represents a unique chapter in Jaguar’s history. It blends traditional British luxury – wood veneers, the scent of leather, and silky refinement – with raw power and sports car dynamics. This makes it an ideal enthusiast’s car, equally enjoyable as a daily driver or a collector’s piece.

Mechanics & Function: Engine, brakes, and gearbox are in excellent condition. No unusual noises or issues from the drivetrain.
