Volvo V70R FWD 1998 – Saffron yellow icon in preserved condition

Basic information and history

The Volvo V70R is one of the most iconic performance models from Swedish Volvo, known for its combination of classic lines, driving pleasure and distinctive details. This Swedish-sold V70R FWD from 1998 is a particularly interesting example in the sought-after saffron yellow color (435, Saffron Pearl), a finish that is very rare on the market today. The car has rolled 277,301 km in total. Over the past ten years, it has only been driven approximately 8000 km and stored in a heated garage, which has contributed to its preservation in good condition despite its age and mileage.

The car has had a total of 12 users (including dealers). The last long-term owner took over on 2015-07-02 and has since cared for the car as a collector's item. Fun fact: Original saffron-colored V70Rs are very rare today. Finding a preserved example like this, with a documented history and long-term garage storage, is unusual - a chance for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Equipment and options

  • 19" Mirzam alloy wheels with Kumho Ecsta LE sport tires 215/35ZR19 85Y
  • Stereo unit with Bluetooth and touchscreen (original large sound package included)
  • New recirculating dump valve
  • Powerflex front suspension bushes and BSR engine mounts
  • Open KN air filter with shielding from BSR
  • Ferrita 2x3" sports exhaust system
  • Lowered chassis (previous owner)
  • Front sports strut bar
  • Birch interior and light leather/alcantara R interior
  • Original fabric mats "R"
  • Brake calipers painted in the car's color
  • Original tinted rear windows (5 pcs)

The car has been carefully modified for a sportier feel. BSR has been behind several upgrades, including boost pressure adjustment, exhaust system and engine mounts. The sound system has also been modernized.

Condition

Body and exterior:

The original paint is in used condition with traces typical of its age. There are some stone chips on the hood, and paint chips on the front fenders and on the passenger side roof molding. The front bumper has a scratch with previous attempts at repair. There are two small dents on the driver's door window frame. Minor rust is present at occasional stone chips, but the extent is limited. The overall impression is still well-kept without major dents or damage.

Boxes and details:

All windows are original. The windshield is slightly worn but fully usable. The rear five windows are tinted. The moldings, emblems and chrome are generally in good condition, with a few minor deviations.

Tires and rims:

19" Mirzam rims in good condition with Kumho Ecsta tires (4–6 mm tread depth). There is a small stone chip on one front rim.

Interior:

The interior of the car is well preserved. The light leather/alcantara interior with birch inlays gives an exclusive impression. The driver's seat cushion has a minor seam break, and the gear lever shows normal wear. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are in good condition. The headliner is nice and the original "R" carpets are still there.

Mechanics and function:

Engine, gearbox and drivetrain work well. The engine is both optimized and aesthetically cared for (valve cover in saffron yellow). A polish would lift the overall impression even further. The upgrades from BSR – including a sports exhaust system, bypass valve and reinforced bushings – improve driving pleasure. The brakes are in good condition. The car is off the road but no known faults prevent driving.

Service history

The original service book is missing, but there is extensive documentation and receipts from service and maintenance from 2010-11-04 onwards. History from both current and previous owners is included. The most recent inspection with a passing result was carried out on 2015-03-17. Given the low mileage over the past decade and the documented maintenance, there is much to suggest that the car is in good technical condition.

Summary

This 1998 Volvo V70R FWD in saffron yellow is a unique opportunity for those looking for a combination of classic status, driving pleasure and collector's value. Despite its age and mileage, the car has been well preserved, with a documented history and long-term garage storage. The original paint and interior, combined with tasteful upgrades and care from previous owners, make this a very interesting example. Perfect for the collector who wants to care for and preserve an icon, or for the enthusiast who appreciates a classic Volvo in an unusual design.

Hello. No, it is not rolled back, but I who stated approximate kilometers as the car was not at home in Sweden from the beginning. It has been standing for the last 11 years so no service or service history during that time except oil filter + oil in engine & gearbox before it was driven in from Norway and here. Turbo does not smoke. EMT not changed in my possession, Rust is in some stone chip. Very nice for his age. Rails mostly faded/color release. The car is lowered but not with coilovers. I got it as exchange for a debt. Probably the finest car and model in Northern Europe. The reservation price is set at 6 digits but still at half its value compared to other similar ones that are for sale or have been in the last years.

The car has a total mileage of 277301 km. Over the past ten years, it has only been driven about 8,000 km and stored in a heated garage, which has helped preserve it in good condition despite age and mileage. In total, the car has had 12 owners (including dealers). The most recent long-term owner took over on 2015-07-02 and has since cared for the car as a collector's item.

I've read the entire description several times, and it doesn't answer any of my questions:
Gearbox – has it been serviced?
    Turbo – does it smoke?
EMT – has it been replaced?
    Rust (sills, floor, tailgate)?
Suspension – has anything been done?
    Service history?

I also downloaded a detailed VIN report, which revealed that the car's odometer had been rolled back. Therefore, the answers to my questions above are crucial for assessing its true value.
