Basic information and history

The Bentley Continental R was presented in Geneva in 1991 and became the first Bentley in decades to have a body entirely of its own, with no equivalent in the Rolls-Royce range. The design was signed by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, and the two-door coupé body was hand-built in Crewe on a platform shared with the Turbo R.

Under the bonnet sits the classic 6.75-litre V8 with a Garrett turbocharger, an engine with origins dating back to 1959 but in this generation combined with electronic fuel injection and a four-speed automatic gearbox with the gear selector on the centre console instead of on the steering column. Output was around 325 horsepower, but it was the torque of just over 750 Nm that gave the model its characteristic, almost silent acceleration. At its introduction, the Continental R was one of the world's most expensive production cars, and the name deliberately harked back to the R-Type Continental of the 1950s.

According to the seller, the gear selector needs fine adjustment into a more precise position, otherwise it shifts smoothly and finely. The climate control is currently disconnected.
