Basic information and history
The 1987 Porsche 944 is one of the most well-balanced versions of Porsche's transaxle platform (i.e. the gearbox on the rear axle). The front/mid engine in combination with the transaxle gives a near 50-50 weight distribution, and the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with balance shafts and Bosch Motronic offers a character that is both mechanically genuine and capable of long-distance travel. The electrically opening and removable roof panel that can be stowed in the trunk also gives the feeling of two cars in one; a coupé when you want to be cozy and open when the weather allows.
This example was imported from Germany in 1998 and has since had a documented safe existence. The current odometer reading is 167,000 km, which can be guaranteed by the seller. Note that the trip meter and probably also the odometer stopped working at the end of the summer of 2024, according to the seller due to the well-known gear in the meter. The car has been in the same garage for the past 25 years, of which the past 4 years with the current owner and 21 years before that with a garage friend of the seller. The car has been shown at car shows and is described as well taken care of.
The body has been repainted by Moses Billack with a high finish. All original decals and body protection films in front of the wheel arches, etc. are correctly in place. The engine has been renovated with original parts, and the car is described as reliable and fun to drive with many enjoyable miles on winding Skåne roads. Information and observations in the ad are according to the seller.

Modifications and improvements: The engine was renovated with original parts. Repaint carried out at Moses Billack (you know, the ones who paint Koenigsegg cars) where the original decals and body protection film were remounted correctly. In the summer of 2024, all rubber hoses in the cooling system were replaced.
Condition
Body and exterior: Very nice repaint with depth and shine, no visible stone chips according to the seller. A small scratch in the middle of the passenger door that is considered polishable, without dents. Glass in good condition with new windshield and integrated antenna. Headlight lenses, moldings and emblems are reported to be fresh, with a note that the center bolt emblems on the rims are worn. Original decals and protective film are correctly attached. See pictures for your own assessment.
Interior: The interior is described as very fresh. The driver's seat has a small scuff on the leather edge at the step that requires careful inspection to discover. The headliner is intact and fresh, but the glue has come loose slightly at the rear edge towards the trunk where it is vinyl, and easy to adjust. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are intact and work. The electric adjustment on the driver's seat has not been tested as the seat has always been in the correct position for the seller. See pictures for your own assessment.
Tires and rims: Original 16-inch aluminum rims (phone dial) with Nokian tires that have very good tread depth. No immediate tire need according to the seller.
Mechanics and function: The engine runs very well with no known problems. All radiator hoses replaced in summer 2024. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual with distinct positions. The brakes are approved during inspection and the handbrake works correctly. Electrically the car mainly works as it should with the exception of the trip meter and probably also the odometer which stopped working at the end of summer 2024 due to a worn gear in the measuring system, a well-known 944 issue.
Service history
According to the seller, there are a lot of receipts saved, including for engine renovation. The car has been inspected regularly and there are many inspection reports preserved. The last known service was carried out in the summer of 2024 in connection with the replacement of all radiator lines. The last approved inspection was on 2024-08-06.
Ownership history in Sweden is well known. The car has been in the same garage for 25 years, of which 21 years with the previous owner and 4 years with the current seller. Imported from Germany in 1998.
Summary
A well-maintained Porsche 944 from 1987 with the coveted updated interior, well-documented ownership history in Sweden and preserved original feel. High-quality repaint, new windshield, engine rebuilt with original parts and recently updated cooling system speak for a sound mechanical condition. The interior is very fresh with only minor signs of wear.
The fact that the trip meter and probably also the odometer have stopped is a known problem on the 944, and something for the next owner to fix. With original 16-inch phone dial rims, good Nokian tires and a new Alpine stereo included, this example appears to be an attractive, ready to drive and honest option for those who want a well-maintained 944 to enjoy both on the road and at meets.
