Basic information and history
When the AMC Eagle SX/4 was introduced in 1981, it was 25 years ahead of its time. A high-built hatchback with four-wheel drive. It would be until 2007, when BMW introduced the X6, before the world saw anything like it again. A sporty body with the benefits of four-wheel drive combined with a higher ground clearance made motoring journalists of the time spit out sentences like " doesn't need asphalt to be fun " and " goes where most cars can't ".
The Eagle SX/4 with a hatchback body was only produced between 1981 and 1983 and the model is rare today, especially in Europe but even in the US. In January 2026, a copy was sold in the US for an impressive $28,000!
This example has been completely renovated from the ground up to a very good condition, including a new driveline, new chassis, new brake and exhaust components, new interior and new paint.

Condition
Body and exterior: Sprayed with Lexus paint in the iconic model-like color scheme but with better depth and shine. Some stickers are starting to wear out but new ones are easy to find. All original emblems are in their place. The paint is in better used condition with some minor blemishes. There has been some paint peeling in the roof rack rails but especially on the spoiler, which is plastic. The upper edge at the trunk lid has some rust. In the photo album "other" there are pictures from the build in the winter of 2017/18.
Interior: Recaro seats with back seat covered in the same fabric in nice used condition without marks or tears but with a few stains on the front passenger seat. Interior from Jeep Cherokee whose fit sometimes does not match the rest of the car's interior. Buttons and controls in good used condition. Questionable mounting of speakers in the door sides.
Tires and rims: Two sets of tires on rims, both visible in the pictures for clarity. Four "basically new" all year Grabber AT wide tires on 18-inch aluminum rims. Four unused all year BF goodrich All terrain on contemporary 16-inch steel rims with "spoke".
Mechanics and function: Direct injection inline six from 1991 Jeep Cherokee. According to the seller, it runs "like clockwork and shifts like a new car". Passenger side window regulator stops working sometimes. Rear wiper arm removed for aesthetic reasons. Rearview mirror not installed but included.

Service history
According to the seller, the car has been "renovated down to every screw, nut and valve". Last approved inspection 2020-09-25 and after 2022 the car has barely been used and has been stored in a garage. The car has passed previous inspections without any complaints, but after being parked for a long time, it was re-inspected in the summer of 2025 due to a slight looseness in the left front wishbone and brake retardation, the left front.
