Basic Information and History

Mercedes-Benz 280 SE from 1975 – one of the most characterful and sought-after models of the classic W116 series! At the time, this model was the flagship among Mercedes’ large luxury cars and over the years it has earned iconic status among collectors and enthusiasts, not least thanks to its robust construction and timeless lines.

This particular example was sold new in Sweden and has had a total of seven owners over the years. The car presents as an older, well-preserved vehicle but clearly shows signs of age and use – the perfect starting point for an enthusiast in search of an original Mercedes with character, patina, and history.

Equipment and Options

  1. Tow bar
  2. Sunroof

The car is equipped with classic features from its generation, with the tow bar and opening sunroof adding both practical and stylistic appeal. Note that the driver’s seat is not original and is also worn.

Condition

Body and exterior:

The paint shows rust bubbles, scratches, and other blemishes (see photos for a more detailed assessment). Rust is present in the doors as well as around the sunroof. One of the rear light lenses is damaged. The sills have previously been repaired for rust. Glass, chrome, trim, light lenses (apart from the rear light) and emblems are in good condition.

Interior:

The cabin is overall in good condition for its age, as are the headliner, steering wheel, controls, and switches. The driver’s seat, however, is both non-original and worn.

Wheels and tires:

Delivered on all-season tires in good condition.

Mechanics and function:

Transmission and drivetrain are assessed to be in very good condition. Brakes are in good order. The seller has personally changed the oil and filter.

Service History

The car has recently received an oil and filter change. Previous service records, history, and receipts have been preserved and will accompany the car to its next owner. The car passed its inspection on 2025-08-05 and is now considered roadworthy indefinitely.

Summary

On offer here is a Swedish-sold 1975 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE – a car that combines charm, patina, and period-correct elegance. Its condition is mixed, with rust, paint flaws, and wear, but with its fresh inspection, previously repaired sills, documented history, tow bar, and sunroof, it provides a solid foundation for either regular use or further restoration.
