Basic information and history
The UAZ 469 was introduced in the early 1970s as a light military off-road vehicle with a focus on robust construction, easy serviceability and high passability. This model has been appreciated by enthusiasts for its uncomplicated mechanics, step frame and ability to go where many other vehicles give up. This 1973 example, now for sale, combines the classic basic design with extensive upgrades for rough off-road driving.
This vehicle was imported from Latvia and came to Sweden in 1996. According to the seller, who has owned the car for about 12 years, it served as a military police car in Latvia during the 1970s or 1980s. The current mileage is 15,000 kilometers. The car was taken down for a comprehensive renovation and repaint in 2014, including the engine compartment, and is mainly in good condition with traces of active off-road use. The engine was stated to be new in 2020, a 2.9-liter stove that contributes to more pleasant driving characteristics, both on and off the road. The car has been in the same family for over twelve years and has been used for camping trips, off-road track driving and work in the forest and land. During the 12 years of ownership, a small fortune has been spent on getting the car to its current condition and everything that has been upgraded and improved. The canvas roof is specially ordered for this particular car. History and renovation pictures are available according to the seller.

**Subject: Urgent inquiry regarding VIN stamping - 1973 UAZ 469 (PRG500)**
Dear seller
I am writing to you as a potential bidder for the 1973 UAZ 469 currently listed on Bidders Highway. I have been reviewing the vehicle's documentation and photo gallery with great interest, as the mechanical upgrades are very impressive.
However, I have noticed a significant detail in one of the undercarriage photos regarding the chassis number (VIN) stamping. The photo clearly shows that the section of the frame containing the VIN (`K 1930729002`) appears to have been cut from another source and welded onto the current frame, or a new plate has been welded over the original stamping area. The rectangular weld bead surrounding the number is quite evident.
As I am considering importing this vehicle to Italy, this specific detail is a major concern. In my country (and many other EU jurisdictions), a "cut and paste" or re-welded VIN section is often classified as a frame tampering issue, which could lead to the seizure of the vehicle during the registration process or the denial of historical certification (ASI).
Before I place a formal bid, I would appreciate your clarification on the following points:
1. **Origin of the Frame:** Could you confirm if the frame was replaced during the 2014 restoration? If so, was the VIN transfer performed or authorized by a certified workshop or the Swedish transport authorities (Transportstyrelsen)?
2. **Legal Documentation:** Is there any official Swedish documentation or a "Registration Inspection" (Registreringsbesiktning) report that explicitly mentions and approves this specific VIN modification?
3. **Inspection History:** Has the vehicle passed its most recent Swedish technical inspection (Bilprovning) with the VIN in this current state?
I am very interested in the build quality of this UAZ, but I need to ensure the legal and administrative transparency of the chassis identification for export purposes.
Thank you in advance for your time and for any additional information or documentation you can provide.
Best regards,
Raffaello
Hello :) the vin and frame was never changed in the 13years i owned this car..its been inspected and cleared every second year since both before and after restorations was done. E few years back a proper registrations inspection was made which allowed for specifying the tiresize and trailerhook etc. The engine code is not registered to the vin since this was not needed. Since the car turned 50years old it doesnt need inspection anymore. Its legal to drive here as it is now since its special rules for vintage cars. I cant say how the rules are in comparison to Italy though.
