Basic information and history
The Triumph TR6 stands out as one of the most sought-after British sports cars of the period, renowned for its classic bodywork and robust construction. The year model combines a timeless design with a straight six engine and provides a driving experience that will appeal to any enthusiast who is attracted to the British sports car tradition. 1971 is an interesting year in the history of the TR6 as the model in the USA still had its typical chrome grille and without an EGR system, giving the car an attractive original design.
This example was originally sold in Texas, USA and was brought to Sweden at the end of 2004. After the import, the current owner became the car's first user in Sweden. Documentation exists about two previous users from Texas – where the first owner owned the car until 1992 when it was transferred to the last American owner. The current owner recently found the car imported via an ad after a long hunt for a well-maintained TR6 without rust, something that this particular example could boast of thanks to its dry origin.
Since being imported to Sweden, the car's current owner has carried out a thorough renovation, with the focus being on restoring the car to its original condition and preserving the most important original details. Both the owner's manual and workshop manual are included, as well as a collection of articles on carburetor settings for further in-depth study.
Current odometer reading is 10,677 km (after import). Documentation includes receipts and protocols from both the USA and Sweden.
Equipment and options
- Original design without retrofitted options
- New mohair cab (installed 2006)
- New SU carburetors with intake filters (replaces Stromberg carburetors for better reliability)
- New carpets and interior panels (from England)
- New rubber strips and windshield trim
- Newly manufactured dashboard
- Original upholstery on reupholstered front seats
- Hard-top
Modifications and improvements:
To promote reliability and performance, the Stromberg carburetors have been replaced with new SU carburetors and associated intake filters. The cab was already changed to a mohair variant in 2006, and the frame of the cab was blasted and painted. The rear mufflers have been replaced with new ones (Simons) but the originals remain. Otherwise, the car has been kept completely in its original design, without changes or additional equipment beyond the factory standard.
Condition
Body and exterior condition: The 2005 renovation meant that the car was stripped bare and repainted in the original color, "Damson Red", including the engine and trunk, and clear coat completed the work. The paint still appears in new condition today without scratches or damage. The chrome details on the bumpers have some minor marks, but the other moldings, emblems and headlight lenses are without any marks. The windshield has a slight milky white tone at the bottom, but without affecting visibility.
Interior: The interior of the car is in very good condition: new carpets, new panels and a newly manufactured dashboard. The instruments have been checked. The seats have been opened and reupholstered, the original upholstery has been reused with the exception of a small crack in the driver's seat. A new mohair cab has been installed, the interior is in perfect condition, as is the exterior. Controls have been replaced where necessary and appear to be in very good condition. The steering wheel is original.
Tires and rims: Installed tires are in new condition and have rolled a maximum of 1000 kilometers since installation.
Mechanics and function: The engine is very clean and well-maintained, with a documented, extensive overhaul by the last American user. The change to SU carburetor is the only significant modification. The brakes are in good condition without any complaints, and during the renovation the pads were replaced and the brake hydraulics were provided with new renovation kits. The gearbox and driveline work as they should, the release bearing and hydraulic seals were replaced in 2005.
Service history
Service records and receipts accompany the car, with documentation from the USA from 1991 to 1992 and a complete Swedish history after import. All receipts for parts purchased from both England and Sweden are included. Notes from 2006 onwards are available for oil changes and regular service. The last oil change was carried out in 2019, and since then the car has been driven a maximum of 500 km. The last inspection with a passing result was carried out on 2019-06-25, and previous records are available. The car is currently exempt from inspection.
Summary
This is a very nicely restored and enthusiast-owned example of a Triumph TR6 from 1971. The combination of solid bodywork, quality restoration, original details and detailed documentation makes the car a rare opportunity for collectors and connoisseurs. With fresh paint, optimized engine, stylish and recently refreshed interior and a pleasant history, this car offers an optimal mix of original feel and drivable classic. An excellent object for those looking for a classic British sports car without compromise.
