Basic information and history
The Land Rover Discovery was launched in 1989 as a more affordable and everyday alternative to the Range Rover, but built on the same robust chassis with solid axles front and rear and permanent four-wheel drive with low and high range. The first generation was produced until 1998, when it was replaced by the Discovery Series II. The model gained its characteristic profile with the raised roof and the so-called alpine windows, and was sold with both three- and five-door bodywork. The three-door version was considerably less common and is today the rarer variant of the first-generation Discovery.
This Land Rover Discovery 3-door from 1998 thus belongs to the final model year of the first generation. According to the seller, the car was not originally sold in Sweden but has been imported from Denmark, and has during its lifetime moved between Denmark and Sweden on several occasions. It has previously been registered in Sweden with registration number ASS579. The car is stated to have had one owner. The odometer reading is 199,000 km, a figure the seller cannot guarantee. The car is stated to be in original condition with no known restorations.
Equipment and options

The car is described as unchanged from original. The front bull bar with auxiliary lights is the only accessory-type equipment listed.
Condition
Bodywork and exterior condition: The bodywork requires welding work. According to the seller, among other things new sills, new inner wings and replacement of part of the floor are needed, and the buyer is referred to the images for a full picture of the extent. At the same time, the body panels, doors and roof are stated to be very good, and the car, according to the seller, does not appear to have been driven off-road. The paint needs a thorough polish and its condition is described as consistent with the car's age and mileage. The windscreen has a stone chip, otherwise the glass is good.
Interior: The interior is described as being in excellent condition, as is the dashboard. The headliner is intact but has come loose in a few places.
Tyres and wheels: The wheels are somewhat worn, as shown in the images. The tyres are of an older date but have acceptable tread depth.
Mechanics and function: The engine is a 300 Tdi, widely regarded as the best engine for the model. The engine, gearbox and brakes are all described as being in excellent condition. The engine starts and runs flawlessly and the gearbox shifts as it should. The high and low range function as intended according to the seller, while the four-wheel drive lock is difficult to engage and needs lubrication, likely because it has never been used. The air conditioning works but needs refilling. The cruise control has not been tested, but the button lights up when activated. All electronics, the trip meter, the sound system, the seatbelts and the exterior lighting are stated to work, and the dashboard is free of warning lights. The car is drivable as it stands. It is not approved for roadworthiness inspection, having only undergone an approved registration inspection on 2025-01-06. The most recent regular inspection is stated to have been carried out on 2009-01-07.
Service history
According to the seller, the car has not been fully serviced and there are no receipts or other documentation to substantiate the service history. However, the seller states that the timing belt, idler pulleys, tensioner and water pump were replaced at 198,750 km.
Summary
This is a Land Rover Discovery from the final model year of the first generation in the uncommon three-door bodywork, with one owner and a combination of engine and gearbox that the seller describes as entirely correct. The interior and drivetrain are stated to be in excellent condition, and the timing belt with associated components has recently been replaced. The bodywork, however, requires welding work on the sills, inner wings and floor, and the car lacks a current roadworthiness inspection. The seller's own assessment is that whoever addresses the rust underneath the car will get a very fine Discovery in original condition.
