Basic information and history

The 1971 Porsche 911 S was inspired by its success on the racetrack. The air-cooled 2.2-liter boxer six with mechanical fuel injection revs just over 7,000 RPM and produces 180 HP with a fantastic sound. The 5-speed gearbox is of the dogleg type where the first gear is located on the left rear to make shifting between 2nd and 3rd faster. The chassis was developed with some parts from the brand's racing cars and the model was also lightened by using aluminum instead of sheet metal. The engine cover is an example. At the time, the S model was the sharpest Porsche you could buy, and as usual the car worked just as well on the track as on the way to the store.

This example is painted in Blutorange, a color that was one of three distinctive colors in the early 1970s. The Porsche reportedly has an odometer reading of 46,666 kilometers, which according to the owner means 144,666 km documented by saved inspection reports. The car has had 4 users since it left the factory in December 1971, with a couple of changes of ownership within the current family. According to the seller, the car is essentially in pristine condition with period additions from the 1970s, and the original Blaupunkt radio with cassette player is still in place.

Period-correct upgrades mentioned include Recaro sports seats, additional lights from Cibie, a front spoiler from the 2.4-liter model, and a very unusual factory aluminum cover under the rear bumper. According to the seller, these parts have been on the car for a long time.

Equipment and options

  • Cibie extra light
  • Recaro sports seats, period-typical
  • Front spoiler from the 2.4-liter model
  • Aluminum protection under the rear bumper, unusual factory option according to the seller
  • Blaupunkt radio with cassette player, original

Modifications and improvements : The period-correct additions above were made, according to the seller, in the 1970s. Otherwise, the car is stated to be in untouched original condition. Partial repainting was carried out in 1998 to freshen up the surface layer. The left door and front fender were repainted in 2017 after the door came into contact with the fender during a move in a garage.

Condition

Body and exterior : Very nice overall impression. The paintwork is described by the seller as very nice with no noted stone chips or scratches. The car was partially repainted in 1998 and locally in 2017 on the left door and front fender. Glass, chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are reported to be in very good condition.

Rust : Rust has been noted in the sills on both sides. This was discovered in 1996 and was then sanded down and treated with Roststopp, which according to the seller stopped the development. Interested parties should assess the extent and any further action.

Interior : Very good used condition in pristine original condition according to the seller. Steering wheel, controls and buttons are stated to be in very good original condition. The headliner is complete but with some stains. The Recaro sports seats are described as period-typical and in good condition.

Tires and rims : The tires are reported to be in good condition with good tread depth, and the classic Fuchs rims are in very good condition.

Mechanics and function : The engine is described as being in excellent condition. The brake system is stated to be very good with even braking effect. The gearbox was renovated at Perrys Motor in October 2024, where, among other things, the synchronizer for first gear was replaced with a later improved type. The clutch was replaced at the same time. During the work, it was noted, according to the workshop, that the clutch was from 1971, which supports the information that the engine had not previously been out of order. Various gaskets have been replaced continuously to deal with minor oil leaks.

Service history

Receipts and documentation for service and repairs from 1996 onwards are available according to the seller.

Workshops over the years : During the seller's ownership, the car has been serviced at Offner in Solna. Then at K3, followed by M-tech in Södertälje and most recently at Perrys Motor in Kolbäck.

Work performed and exchanges according to receipts and the seller:

  • Gearbox renovation and new clutch, Perrys Motor, October 2024
  • Silencer
  • Oil tank
  • Chain tensioner
  • Shock absorber
  • Fuel pump and all fuel hoses
  • Deck
  • Brake pads
  • Packing replacement for minor oil leaks

Summary

A uniquely untouched, but very well-maintained Porsche 911 S painted in the period color BlutOrange which is slightly more red than typical orange. The car has period upgrades and preserved original feel. The current owner has had the car since 1995 and has consciously preserved the car in its pristine original condition as far as possible. For the future owner who still wants to restore the car to new condition, it is a fantastic starting point and for those who, like the owner, want to use and carefully preserve it as a typical Porsche 911 S, it is always equally rewarding to both look at and drive. The stated odometer reading, 46444 kilometers, means 146444 km, which is guaranteed by the seller and can be documented by saved inspection reports.

The paintwork has been partially repainted but is presented as being in very good condition, and the interior is said to be pristine and well preserved with an original Blaupunkt radio.

The Porsche was delivered to a Swedish expat in Switzerland in December 1971. The same owner imported the car as moving goods to Sweden in July 1972. Since then, the car has had 3 more users. Full ownership history is documented. It is also worth mentioning that the Porsche was decommissioned between 1986 and 1995, which explains the low mileage. For the enthusiast who appreciates an early 911a with the high-revving 2.2 liter S engine character, the 5-speed dogleg gearbox with the first gear down on the left and the period-typical 70s color, this example offers a somewhat unique opportunity to own a 911 S in very nice original condition.
