Basic Information and History

1969 was a year when Mercedes-Benz truly set the standard for what a luxury sedan could be – and the 300 SEL remains a timeless example of this. Equipped with advanced technology, superior comfort, and proudly part of the W109 series, this model represents a milestone in the brand’s engineering and prestige. It was the flagship of the brand in the late 1960s and is highly valued by enthusiasts for its uncompromising technology and perceived build quality.

The car’s history is notable – it was originally delivered as an executive vehicle for a director at Electrolux, suggesting both wealthy first owners and careful use throughout its life. Over the years, it has officially had 15 registered keepers, but according to the seller, the number of true users is fewer – strengthening the impression of a well-preserved and cherished vehicle.

The current seller shares a personal anecdote about how he fell in love with the car during a spontaneous visit to Classic Garage, where the vehicle “stood out from the crowd” and drew attention even among Mercury enthusiasts. The car is now being sold because it is not being used enough, and the seller wants to give a new owner the opportunity to enjoy and preserve this fine example for the future.

Equipment and Options

  • Air suspension
  • Electrically operated central locking
  • Sunroof (electric/pneumatic)
  • Power windows
  • Leather upholstery
  • Air conditioning (AC)

The car has not been subject to major modern modifications, remaining in original condition with desirable period equipment. A previous owner had the entire body repainted and zinc-treated – a valuable measure for long-term preservation and rust protection.

Note: The front electric windows are currently not working – the relay may be replaced before sale.

Condition

Bodywork and Exterior:

The paintwork is in excellent condition after the professional repaint carried out by a previous owner. The body is zinc-treated and said to be rust-free. Chrome, trim, light lenses, and emblems are in very fine condition, with only a small, barely visible dent on one trim piece. No chrome peeling. The glass is free from stone chips, cracks, or discoloration.

Interior:

Very good overall, with a pleasant patina. Minor wear on the storage pockets of the door panels (mainly driver’s side, some dirt from placing items/shoes). Headliner in fine condition, with small traces of past moisture near the sunroof (no current leaks). Steering wheel shows a minor tear, while switches and controls are otherwise in good condition.

Tires and Wheels:

Tires in good condition (tread depth to be confirmed as the car is stored elsewhere).

Mechanics and Functionality:

Engine runs well, brakes are in good condition. The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and directly through all gears. Electronics function as intended except for the current issue with the front power windows (relay fault, may be fixed before sale).

Service History

  • Latest service: Performed summer 2025, including cylinder head resurfacing, gasket replacements, and oil change.
  • Last approved inspection: 2017-09-01.

The car comes with a comprehensive binder of receipts for restorations and regular maintenance from previous owners, providing strong documentation of its history and care.

Summary

For those seeking a classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL (1969) with documented history, high equipment level, and authentic character, this is a rare opportunity. This example stands out with its well-preserved bodywork, original-feel interior, and a powertrain that delivers a genuine Mercedes-Benz experience. A chance to acquire an icon from Stuttgart – a car to both enjoy and preserve. Perfect for the enthusiast or collector looking to own a piece of Swedish automotive history with that special “star quality” that only a 300 SEL can provide.

Är motorn bytt till en 2,8? Original är väl 3,0?

  • Aston1MartinSellerSeptember 20, 2025 18:47
