Basic information and history

The Volvo P210 Duett, model year 1968, is one of Volvo's most recognizable utility cars and the last of the classic frame-built station wagons and vans with roots in the PV series. The model combines a robust separate frame with a practical two-piece tailgate and has been appreciated by both professional drivers and enthusiasts. Towards the end of the model's life, which this -68 is included, the cars are often sought after for their mature design and improved road feel.

This P210 is sold new in Sweden with a known journey from Sweden to Germany and then back to Sweden again. The odometer reading is 79,000 kilometers and is stated to be guaranteed by the seller. There is extensive documentation that confirms both mileage and work performed.

The car underwent a full restoration with frame lift and complete body renovation over 20 years ago, where it was repainted from all-white to red/white in Volvo's original color combination . The undercarriage and frame were also painted during the work. The seller mentions an anecdote about "Dunder Carlsson", which emphasizes that this example carries a story and a longer enthusiast-owned history. There are older photos from the renovation period.

History

  • The car was registered to merchant Erik Olsson in Sveg in Härjedalen on December 14, 1968 with registration number Z 14268.
  • When the car changed owners, it was reregistered as CUH588 and the new owner was Asta Margareta Persson on Frösön.
  • The name Donner Carlsson is a nod to Karlsson on the Roof by Astrid Lindgren. A little mischievous, a little loud; under the hood sits a B18 with a sports cam and dual Weber carburetors. When the valves open, a deep, raw intake sound is heard that bounces between walls and asphalt. Not just a sound. A real thunder.
  • On March 28, 1988, the car was exported to Jürgen Recklinghausen in Germany, who commissioned an extensive restoration. The car was stripped down to its components and meticulously worked through. The goal was to restore the car to its original character and condition.
  • The car has only driven approximately 79,000 kilometers. The car's history is unusually well documented. There are Swedish inspection reports, German TÜV inspections and import documents. This means that the car's history can be followed very clearly over the years.
  • The heart of the car is a classic Volvo B18. But this is no ordinary Duett. The engine was updated with a sports cam and twin Weber carburetors, and the power increased from around 75 hp to 102 hp. The throttle response is direct. The engine revs willingly. The intake sound from the Weber carburetors almost sounds like the car is breathing through two open trumpets. Not quiet. Not discreet. Just the way a real enthusiast car should sound. The car was also equipped with disc brakes at the front, drums at the rear and a dual-circuit braking system.
  • In the engine compartment there is a small brass plate. The plate reads Restauriert 1998 - KWM - 65582 Diez. Diez is located in Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, a region where the oldtimer culture is strong. There are workshops here that have worked on classic European cars and also brands such as Porsche and Mercedes. The plate is more than a detail. It is a signature from the company that restored the car and proof that the car has been taken care of by the right hands.
  • During its time in Germany, the car carried a special registration with an H at the end. This stands for Historisches Fahrzeug. The car was registered in Flensburg, near the Danish border. The H-mark is given to vehicles that are over 30 years old and preserved in historically correct condition. This means that the car was officially considered a cultural heritage vehicle in Germany.
  • Now it's time for the car to change owners again. Even though the restoration was done many years ago, the car is still in very good condition. Like all oldtimers, it needs a little care now and then. A little care. A little love. But this is not just a car. It's a story. A Volvo Duett from the last production series, with a journey from Sweden to Germany - and back again. Now the next chapter awaits. The world's best Karlsson.

Condition

Body and exterior condition: The car was repainted in red/white over 20 years ago. The overall impression is very good according to the seller. Upon careful inspection, minor remarks are visible: a small dent on the driver's side door pillar in the white field, some scuff marks on the right front fender and a round bulge on the left rear fender that was present in older pictures. The undercarriage and frame are painted. The seller states that no continuous rust is noted, but on the underside of the rear fenders, irregularities can be felt from old dirt and stone chips, which may merit preventive action to avoid future corrosion.

Glass, chrome and details: Windows without stone chips or scratches as reported. Chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are considered good. The side mirrors are not period originals, but work and are in good condition.

Interior: The interior is in very good condition. The headliner is described as perfect. The carpets are in almost new condition and the passenger compartment has black leather upholstery with a sofa in the back. The belts and cigarette lighter work. The steering wheel, controls and buttons are in good condition. The ignition switch is supplemented with a start button: the key is turned to ignition, then start via the button under the key.

Tires and rims: Brand new tires with white sides are mounted, and a spare wheel is in the designated place. 5.5 inch Volvo rims are mounted, where one rim differs slightly in design compared to the others according to the seller.

Mechanics and function: B18 four-stroke that starts easily and runs well. Idle can be experienced as somewhat rough, which is consistent with the combination of sports cam and dual Weber as well as intake noise. 102 horsepower instead of the original's 75, documented and registered. Brakes are described as very good, with discs at the front, drums at the rear and a dual-circuit system. Gearbox and drivetrain without any complaints according to the seller.

Service history

Documentation: The seller states that there is a whole folder with documentation, history and various receipts that prove the low mileage and the modifications made. The effect is tested and certified, and the information can be found in the Swedish car documents.

Odometer reading: 79,000 kilometers, stated as guaranteed by the seller and supported by the accompanying history.

Summary

A well-maintained Volvo P210 Duett from 1968 with documented performance upgrades to 102 horsepower, approved by authorities and included in the registration documents. The car was sold in Sweden but was exported to Germany in 1988 and then returned to Sweden in 2025, and over 20 years ago underwent an extensive frame lift renovation and repaint in the period red/white Volvo combination. The interior is very nice and the mechanics are described as working well with upgraded brakes and newer tires with white sides. There are minor cosmetic marks on the body, and one rim differs in design compared to the others.
