Basic information and history

Launched in 1948, the Morris Minor is one of the British car industry’s most recognisable small cars. Designed by Alec Issigonis, the model became known for its well-balanced chassis architecture with an individual torsion-sprung front, precise steering feel and good usability. During the late sixties, the Minor was normally equipped with the 1098 A-series four-stroke engine with SU carburettor and four-speed manual gearbox, which provided a robust and easy-to-service powertrain with a classic British feel.

This example is imported from England and is therefore not sold in Sweden. According to the seller, the car was customs cleared for Sweden by Järudds Bil on behalf of the seller's father, and the sale is now being brokered by the seller. An English registration plate is included, which may facilitate further research into the history. The stated odometer reading is 8 kilometers . The seller states that the function of the trip meter is uncertain and the car has not been driven on the road, only function tested in connection with starting and a simple review.

The car has been converted to left-hand drive by an English company specializing in Morris and fitted with front anti-roll bars according to the seller. This provides a considerable improvement in road feel compared to a completely original Minor from the period.

Equipment and options

  • Front anti-roll bar
  • Converted to left-hand drive

Modifications and improvements according to the seller: conversion to left-hand drive and installation of anti-roll bars were carried out by a company in England. In 2024, the oil and oil filter were changed, the coolant was changed, the brake servo bell was replaced and a new battery was installed.

Condition

Body and exterior: The paint has some minor scratches and a more noticeable damage and a dent. The right rear fender has a deep scratch in the paint, approximately 4 centimeters long. The right front door has a dent with a circumference of approximately 5 centimeters that bulges inward approximately 2 millimeters. The seller estimates that the car may have been repainted previously. The glass has scratches on the window in the right front door and minor scratches and stone chips in the windshield. The chrome, moldings, headlight lenses and emblems are said to be well preserved with minor scratches on the bumpers.

Interior: Generally good condition and well preserved, but somewhat dirty. The headliner is good with a small tear at the left rear, without any sagging. Steering wheel, controls and buttons are in good condition with a few small paint chips the size of a pin. Trip meter is reported to be unreliable in function.

Tires and rims: Tires and rims from 2016, tread depth approximately 6 millimeters all around. Condition is described as near new in terms of wear, but age should be considered before driving.

Mechanics and function: According to the seller, the engine has good compression, starts and runs, with a minor oil leak noted. The car cannot be driven at the moment because the carburetor needs to be adjusted and the car has only been functionally tested. Brakes are present but need to be bled and checked. The brakes do not work as they do now. The brake servo bell was replaced in 2024. The gearbox and driveline are said to work, but since the car has not been road tested, it is difficult for the seller to comment on the condition under load. The car has not been recently inspected.

Service history

According to the seller, there are no older service records or receipts for the car available. In 2024, the following work was carried out: changing the engine oil and oil filter, changing the coolant, changing the brake servo bell and installing a new battery. Otherwise, there is no documented service history. An English registration plate is included and can possibly be used to track previous history in England.

Summary

A 1968 Morris Minor with an interesting specification for those who appreciate classic British small car technology. The car is imported from England, converted to left-hand drive and equipped with front anti-roll bars. It starts and runs but needs carburettor adjustment and a review of the brake system before road driving. The bodywork shows local paint damage and a dent, the interior is well preserved with minor remarks, and the tyres have good tread depth despite their age. The documentation is limited to recent basic work carried out in 2024.

In summary, a complete and functionally tested basis is offered for the enthusiast who wants to complete a Minor with the right feel for road handling and with the opportunity to delve into the car's English background via the accompanying license plate. All information is provided by the seller.
