MG MGB 1.8 Cabriolet 1976 – Stylish British Roadster with Charm and History
Basic Information and History
This 1976 MG MGB 1.8 is a well-preserved example of classic British roadster culture. Originally sold new in Sweden, it currently shows 86,567 km on the odometer, although this mileage cannot be fully verified through complete documentation. The current owner has had the car for over ten years, having purchased it from an estate sale.
A charming touch is the included driving log covering the years 2009 to 2013, where a previous owner meticulously recorded trips, purchases, and fuel fill-ups – offering a glimpse into the car’s past use and care.
Equipment and Features
To aid maintenance, the car has been fitted with a discreetly installed C-Tek battery charger port with LED indicators for battery health. Otherwise, the car remains in original condition with no cosmetic modifications or aftermarket equipment. This makes it an ideal collector’s piece for those seeking an unmodified and characterful classic.
Condition
The bodywork is in very good condition, free from rust, with well-preserved paint that was resprayed in 2009. There is a crack in the paint on the driver’s door near the mirror, which was present at the time of purchase. No dents or other major exterior damage are noted. Chrome, trim, light lenses, and badges are all in excellent shape, as are the wheels and tires (tread depth 4–6 mm).
The interior is in good, usable condition with a few minor flaws: the driver's seat has a seam that has come loose at the bottom of the backrest, and the speaker console shows a previously repaired crack. Steering wheel, controls, and instruments are all fully functional and undamaged.
The weakest point is the convertible top, which has a tear and some detached seams on the inside near the frame.
Mechanically, the car performs very well. The engine starts easily, runs smoothly, and does not leak oil. Gearbox and drivetrain are quiet and in good working order, and the brakes are in excellent condition with even and effective response – as noted during the last inspection.
Service History
The car has received regular maintenance during current ownership, with annual oil changes and checks of the gearbox and rear axle. It has been stored in a heated garage with access to a lift, which has allowed for thorough upkeep. Documentation goes back to 2009, including service records and historical information. While the original service booklet is not filled out according to factory intervals, there is good documentation of performed maintenance.
The last approved vehicle inspection was on 2018-06-16. The car is exempt from further inspections.
Summary
This is a characterful and well-maintained MG MGB 1.8 – a true icon of 1970s British motoring. A fantastic choice for anyone seeking a classic convertible with charm, history, and a record of care. For those in search of an honest and soulful MGB with documented history, this is an excellent opportunity.
