Basic Information and History
This 1965 BMW 1800 is an unusually well-preserved and completely unrestored original example from the legendary “Neue Klasse” series – the model that put BMW on the global map. The car was sold new in Arvidsjaur, Sweden, and has had only one user. The current owner purchased it from the daughter of the original buyer – she had never used the car, and since then, it has only been started and recently inspected (May 8, 2025).
The odometer shows just 12,074 km, supported by accompanying documentation. This is a true barn find with a level of provenance rarely seen – a time capsule in original condition.
Equipment and Options
- BMW original plaid seat covers for the front seats
- Early Tectyl rustproofing treatment, which has preserved the bodywork in excellent condition despite the treatment now beginning to dry and flake
Condition
The car is in remarkable condition for its age and has never been restored. The original 1965 paint is still present, with a nice shine and authentic patina. Some surface rust is visible on the front fenders, above the rear bumper, and near the hood emblem. The body is free from dents or major damage but does have minor imperfections – see photos.
The interior is in exceptionally fine condition. The seats are intact, the dashboard is free from cracks, the headliner is undamaged, and all controls are in good condition. The only noted flaws are glue residue on the right front door and a slightly loose door handle.
The wheels are undamaged, the tires are new, and all chrome, trim, and light lenses are in good condition.
Service History
The engine is untouched and in good condition. The brakes have been refurbished in recent years. The most recent service was performed approximately 20 km ago and included:
- Oil change
- Filters
- Spark plugs, ignition wires, and distributor
- Brake pads
- The service was performed by the current owner. A service booklet is included, along with documentation from the car’s early years: inspection records, service receipts, tax documents, and fuel rationing cards.
- The car passed its most recent inspection on May 8, 2025, and runs well mechanically – no unusual noises from the engine or drivetrain, and all functions and electrical components work as they should.
Summary
A fantastic opportunity to acquire a completely unrestored and Swedish-sold 1965 BMW 1800, in a condition rarely seen. With only one user, extensive documentation, low mileage, and original details intact, this is a car for the serious collector or BMW enthusiast seeking something truly special.
