The 1962 model year marks one of the more harmonious vintages of Cadillac's early sixties. The fins had been toned down compared to the dramatic years of the late fifties, and the design was instead characterised by straight, horizontal lines, a wide grille and the new split tail-light design. Sedan de Ville stood at the top of the sedan hierarchy within the Fleetwood series and was offered both as a four-window and six-window hardtop, with the period-typical panoramic impression created by the large glass areas.

Under the hood sat Cadillac's 390-cubic-inch engine, a V8 of 6.4 litres which, with its large displacement and low revs, provided the smooth, near-silent propulsion the marque had built its reputation on.
