Basic Information and History

The 1958 Cadillac Sixty-Two Coupé De Ville represents the absolute pinnacle of the American car industry in the postwar era, with its distinctive design, impressive size, and luxurious comfort. The model debuted at a time when Cadillac set new standards for style and technical innovation – an icon among 1950s collector cars.

This example was imported from the USA by the current Swedish owner’s husband and has remained in the same family ownership since. The car was fully restored over a 20-year period by Tommy Fält in Vikmanshyttan, Hedemora, and was even used as a wedding car in 2004. The odometer today shows 52,689 km.

Notably, the car has been carefully stored and sparingly used in recent years. It is now being sold due to lack of space, awaiting its next enthusiast.

Engine & Drivetrain

The 1958 Cadillac Sixty-Two Coupé De Ville is powered by the iconic 6.0-liter V8 engine (365 cubic inches), an engine that set the standard for postwar American full-size luxury cars. It delivers approximately 310 hp (SAE gross) at 4,600 rpm and an impressive torque of 595 Nm at 2,800 rpm, providing smooth yet powerful driving characteristics.

The drivetrain is original and paired with Cadillac’s Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission, one of the most advanced automatics of its time, renowned for reliability and smooth shifting. Power is delivered to the rear wheels, and combined with the high output and solid chassis, it ensures a majestic and comfortable driving experience – just as Cadillac intended.

The engine starts easily, runs quietly and smoothly at idle, and provides stable performance while driving. During the restoration, all vital components were dismantled and inspected, and since then, the engine has seen only light use, which contributes to its excellent condition today.

Modifications & Improvements

During the extensive restoration, the entire car was dismantled – body, paintwork, and interior were all restored to a very high original standard. The car was repainted during the restoration. All removable parts were attended to where needed, with authenticity as the guiding principle.

Condition

Body and Exterior: Restored body and repainted during the restoration, in very fine condition. Minor remarks (see photos). A few small white spots are present on the trunk lid, and a crack in the driver’s side window. Chrome and trim are in good usable condition but not like new.

Interior: Fully restored and top-class for its age. Original steering wheel and details, new headliner, and all upholstery restored to original specification.

Tires and Wheels: Fitted with brand new tires (2025).

Mechanics and Functionality: The engine is in perfect condition and runs beautifully. Gearbox and drivetrain are reported to be original and function well. Brakes have been inspected and work properly. Note that some electrical features are not connected: power seats and speedometer are non-functional. The car has once experienced vapor lock during cruising, otherwise it has run without problems. A few small details remain, such as fitting a trunk mat and installing a spacer plate for the vapor lock.

Service History

The car has not been serviced since the comprehensive restoration, as it has been sparingly driven since. No paperwork remains, but it passed Swedish inspection in 2023.

The restoration was carried out by Tommy Fält in Vikmanshyttan, ensuring craftsmanship and careful documentation in the work, even if no records are included in paper form.

Summary

A rare opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors: This 1958 Cadillac Sixty-Two Coupé De Ville is an impressive and unusually well-restored example of an automotive icon, ready to be enjoyed or displayed.

A long and meticulous restoration, sparing use, and documented family ownership from import make this car a safe and delightful choice for those seeking an American full-size classic in excellent condition.

Some electrical features remain to be completed, but the car is otherwise very well cared for, with a fresh engine & drivetrain and a fantastic original feel.
