BMW R51/3 1953 – Restored by a Swedish Drag Racing Legend
Basic Information and History
This 1953 BMW R51/3 is a Swedish-sold example with only one previous owner. The motorcycle has a fascinating and personal history, having undergone a full restoration in 2005 by Görgen Carlsson, born in 1929 – a legend in Swedish drag racing and well-known in the speedway and ice racing circles of the 1960s and 70s. Görgen was a passionate builder of racing motorcycles and placed great importance on period correctness, which is evident throughout this machine. It was restored as his final personal project, but sadly, he passed away from cancer in 2013 before he could enjoy the finished motorcycle.
