Basic information and history

The 1951 Citroën Berline B11 Sport is a classic model that represents the pioneering technology and design language of Citroën in the post-war era. The Traction Avant model series set the standard for front-wheel drive and a unibody, and quickly became renowned for its comfort, stability and advanced engineering.

This example was delivered new to a merchant in Karlstad in 1951 and has since had an exciting ownership history. Three users in Arvika followed from 1956 to 1965, when the car was deregistered. It was not until 1993 that it found its way back to Swedish car culture and was then renovated, having since been located in Hedemora for over 25 years. The current odometer reading shows 44,819 km and the car has had a total of five previous owners.

Some notable details are the converted electrical system to 12 V with a modern generator, which makes operation and service easier compared to the original 6 volt system. The car wears black high-gloss paint and exudes a contemporary expression. For the enthusiast, this is a Citroën with an exciting history and continuously preserved in a close to original design.

Equipment and options

  • New 12 V generator and electrical system
  • Completely repainted body (black)
  • Seat covers
  • New steering wheel installed
  • New Michelin X tires
  • Rear brake bands replaced 2021

The biggest modifications are the modernization of the electrical system to 12 V and the installation of a new generator. In addition, the car has received a new steering wheel and the interior is protected by a cover. Painting and regular maintenance have contributed to a well-preserved condition while preserving character and originality.

    Condition

Body and exterior: The black paint is very glossy and was repainted during the restoration. There is a small dent on the fender edge. The chrome, moldings, emblems and headlight lenses are considered to be in good condition. The windshield has a few small scratches. See pictures to check the condition.

Interior: The seats are in good condition and have been upholstered and the headliner is nice and intact. The car has a new steering wheel which improves the impression of the driving environment. Controls and buttons work except for the window cranks in the rear doors which are stuck and the fuel gauge is out of order.

Tires and rims: Four new Michelin X are fitted, ensuring good performance and a classic look.

Mechanics and function: The engine is said to be in good condition, as is the brake system, where the rear brake bands have recently been replaced. However, there is a noise from the release bearing.

    Service history

The last service was carried out in May 2024, with an oil change in both the engine and gearbox. The car has hardly been driven since then. The rear brake bands were replaced before an approved inspection in August 2021. Older service records or receipts are not included. The car is now exempt from inspection.

    Summary

This Citroën Berline B11 Sport from 1951 combines genuine Swedish history with a period feel and useful modernisations. With a well-maintained body, new 12V electrical system, new tyres and a good engine, this is a great item for collectors and drivers who appreciate the Traction Avant's innovations and history. A car that offers both driving pleasure and collector's value.
