The Porsche that found home
"Sot" has found its home again. Seven years ago, my brother and I bought our first Porsche. Our wallets were limited, but our requirements were crystal clear – it had to be a 911. So we chose perhaps the most unloved of them all, the 996. A black, fairly naked car with no equipment, imported from France, with an engine already changed, sitting on questionable Chinese coilovers and with an exterior that had seen better days. But it was mechanically sound – and for us, it was a golden opportunity.Driving pleasure in focus
We started to build further. Or the experts at Levin Racing started to build further. Safety and durability were the focus, the car was to be driven. Hard and often. New suspension, lighter flywheel, gearbox linkage from the GT3, half cage, GT3 seats, Öhlins components and a diffad rear axle that made all the difference in the world. The car – nicknamed “Sot” – quickly became a favorite at both trackdays and ice tracks. We loved it. For less money than a used Golf GTI, we had created a real toy missile.
First out on the marketplace
But when we launched Bidders Highway and needed our very first sale item, Sot had to go under the hammer. (see the auction HERE)
It was with a tear in the eye, but almost the entire investment came back. Since then, the garage has been filled with Alfa Romeos, other Porsches and all sorts of fun – but the hole from the 996 never healed.
The Porsche that came and went, and came back again
So when Sot appeared for sale in Skåne this spring, it was impossible to resist. The same money changed hands, and the car rolled back home to the garage.
Now we are reunited, and the summer has been a pure rekindling behind the wheel. Sot is home – and in the next text I will tell you more about the modifications and what the car is actually used for today.
