Basic Information and History
The Volvo Amazon has long been a beloved Swedish classic – known for its robust construction, simple charm, and timeless lines. This model, a Volvo Amazon 121 P130 1.8, carries a genuine and well-preserved family history with continuous ownership since 1968. Such an example, with its documented background and well-known users, is a rare offer for the enthusiast seeking both character and authenticity.
The car was sold new in Sweden and has been in the same family’s possession since 1968. Originally, the seller’s parents purchased the car; the mother was the registered owner while the father, then a German citizen, drove it. When the father became a Swedish citizen, ownership was transferred to him, and he kept the car until his passing in 2024. Thereafter, it was inherited by the current seller.
The current odometer reading shows 45,789 km. The car has mainly been used for long journeys and has been a faithful companion on countless trips – from family visits in Tornedalen and Germany to adventures in Hungary, where it remained active even in recent years.
As a curiosity, there is extensive documentation: the previous owner meticulously recorded fuel refills, service work, and repairs up until the last ten years. This binder of records comes with the car.
Equipment and Options
- Replaced front seats (Volvo 240 seats with headrests – for added comfort on long journeys)
- Front seat belts installed
- Replaced rear seat
- Replaced radio
- Trunk mat missing
Modifications and Improvements
The car has had both front and rear seats as well as the radio replaced for increased comfort and a more modern feel. Front seat belts have been installed for improved safety. These adaptations made the car more suitable for long-distance travel across Europe.
Condition
Body and Exterior:
The car is in original condition with never repainted bodywork. Over the years, the paint has faded and dulled, and on the trunk lid it has partly cracked and peeled, leading to rust spots. There is a small dent on the rear bumper. Some rust repairs (e.g., lower driver’s door and rear fenders) are of simpler quality but remain functional for now. The body will need larger restoration in the future, particularly the trunk lid and rear fenders. One front fender has been replaced. Age-related wear is visible on the door panels and sill trims. The trim on the front fender has loosened slightly at the front edge.
Interior:
Seats have been replaced, with the driver’s seat slightly worn to one side. Some loose lining at the rear seat. The headliner is original, with nice patina but intact. Controls, steering wheel, and switches work as they should.
Tires and Wheels:
Tires have about 4 mm tread depth, age unknown.
Mechanics and Function:
The engine has run reliably during the current ownership.
Recently replaced and serviced (06/25):
- Rear brake shoes, brake cylinders, brake lines (rear), and brake hose
- Master cylinder, slave cylinder, and clutch line
- Oil and filter change
Front brakes are in good condition according to the workshop. Gearbox and drivetrain function normally.
Defects:
- Cabin lighting not working (switch button stuck)
- Driver’s side lock cylinder loose – key must be turned three-quarters of a turn to unlock
- Only one set of keys available
Service History and Documentation
The car comes with an extensive binder of documentation from 1971–2016, including sorted service receipts, inspection protocols (1977–2016), and driving logs (10 pcs, between 1982–2016). Among the documented milestones:
- Major work on floor and front/rear fenders in 2015
- Front brakes replaced in 2015

- Front and rear bumpers (both sides) replaced in 1996 and 1999
