When passion meets perfection on ice - The ICE i St. Moritz

Some automotive experiences happen behind the wheel. Others happen when the world stops, the temperature drops and some of the most exclusive cars ever built roll out onto a frozen lake in the Alps. The ICE in St. Moritz is just such a moment – and this year our auction manager Erik was there to experience it up close.

A concours beyond the ordinary

The ICE, the International Concours of Elegance, has quickly established itself as one of Europe’s most talked-about and exclusive automotive events. Set on the sparkling ice of Lake St. Moritz, rare classics, iconic sports cars and hand-picked modern masterpieces come together in an environment that is equal parts haute couture, motorsport history and Alpine winter scenery. The overall experience is taken seriously here – to the point where waiters elegantly glide across the ice on skates while serving champagne to guests.

Racing legends who defy the laws of physics

On the ice during The ICE 2026, it was above all the cars in the Living Legends class that set the tone. Among the most notable was the iconic Porsche 917, here in its psychedelic “Hippie” costume from Le Mans 1970 – one of the most legendary racing cars in motorsport history, now literally across a frozen Alpine lake. Along with it, extreme racing machines such as the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, driven by “Mr Le Mans” Tom Kristensen, also showed how raw motorsport history can be brought to life in a completely unique environment.

Le Mans-history on studded tires

Another moment that truly captured the spirit of St. Moritz was when racing legend Erik Comas drove his former Le Mans car, a street-registered 660-horsepower Nissan R390 GT1, all the way over the Alpine passes to the event. Once there, the car was fitted with studded tires to perform exhibition laps on the ice – a scenario that would have been completely unthinkable when the car was competing internationally in the 1990s. Among the more timeless pieces, the elegant 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS “Teardrop” stood in a class of its own, winning the 2026 Best of Show award, clear proof that true design and elegance only get stronger with age.

Meetings beyond cars

Erik's trip was about more than just admiring cars on ice, however. Just as important were the meetings around him. During his days in St. Moritz, he met several of our partners, as well as both buyers and sellers who share our passion for enthusiast vehicles. Conversations that began around iconic racing cars often continued over a coffee and shared experiences from auctions, collecting and high-level car ownership.

Relationships that drive Bidders Highway forward

This personal presence is something we at Bidders Highway value highly. Meeting face to face, discussing the market, trends and future objects creates a different kind of trust than is possible remotely. The ICE therefore became the perfect place to both deepen relationships and get a clear sense of what is going on in the European enthusiast community right now.

Inspiration from the Alps for our auctions

For us, trips like this are a natural part of continuing to develop Bidders Highway. By being where it happens, among the cars and people who define the passion, we can bring inspiration, knowledge and new opportunities home to our auctions. St. Moritz offered ice, elegance and world-class motoring history – and Erik came home with both new contacts and even more drive to continue building an auction platform for true enthusiasts.
