An Italian Beauty That Still Holds Up – Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV
Featured cars
When the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV was launched, it was the final evolution of the model, a development of the preceding 1750. It received a new grille, a larger engine, and more power.Bidders HighwaySeptember 26, 2023 10:00
It's easy to get tangled up in the various designations, both numbers and model names, for
the base model 1750, which actually comes from the 105/115 series. Yes, you see.
Despite the potential confusion regarding its designation, there is at least one point on which
the majority agree: the sporty Bertone Coupé is a beauty that seems to transcend eras
and trends. For the seller of the unique item on Bidders Highway, it all began with
a 1750.
– I bought my Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV in 1990 and it was my first car, he recalls. My brother
had a 1750 when I was 14. And I was completely captivated by it. It's the same body.
The seed had been planted. He told his brother that he would buy one just like it once he
was old enough to get his own driving licence.
– And that's what happened! When I bought the car I was still doing my military service,
and then used it as a daily driver for 6–7 years.
After that, the decision was made to do a full restoration, something that was easier said than
done since he didn't have a garage. The restoration plans were shelved and life got in the way – it
would take almost ten more years before the restoration got underway.
– We built a house here in Falun and suddenly we had a garage, he continues. So we moved
the car up from Stockholm. And then I could start stripping it down. I've stripped it completely. I've done everything
myself except the paint.
The body was sanded down to bare metal, which then received several new layers of red – fitting for an
Italian car.
– When I saw the new paint for the first time, it looked like a lollipop! It was so
glossy and beautiful. And yet the clear coat wasn't even on yet.
It took about two years to finish the car and it was built entirely according to the vision he had as
a child – with a sport seat, Momo steering wheel and GTA wheels.
– I hope the car goes to someone who's passionate about this body style. Preferably someone who takes
over, who might refine it further and perhaps has another idea of how it should look
on the inside. Unfortunately the car has been sitting idle – I want someone to take over and do something
exciting with it!
