Founded in Turin in 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia, the company built its reputation on ideas other makers hesitated to try: unitary bodyshells, narrow-angle V4 and V6 engines, and the Aurelia, the first production car with a V6. Among enthusiasts the 1960s remain the high point, with the Flaminia as a grand, expensively made tourer, the Flavia on flat-four power and front-wheel drive, and the Fulvia Coupé combining light-footed handling with a serious competition record. From the 1980s it is the rally lineage that draws attention, the hotter Delta versions above all, alongside the small Autobianchi A112 sold through the same dealer network.
