Founded by the Argentine-born Alejandro de Tomaso, the company built its reputation on a straightforward recipe: Italian chassis and coachwork paired with American V8 muscle. The Ghia-bodied Mangusta first brought the name serious attention, but it is the Pantera that has become the collector's choice. With its wedge profile penned by Tom Tjaarda, a mid-mounted Ford V8 and a rawer character than its Ferrari contemporaries, it holds a distinct place among 1970s sports cars.
